Well, I can certainly appreciate that Jackson isn't really a "mainstream" brand, but at the time, the more mainstream the brand is, the more money they'll make, and in turn, the lower the prices of their instruments would probably be.

not sure I agree with this, this only works if a factory is geared up to meet the increased demand, more often than not, more demand means overloading factories which leads to slower turn around time, but yes, quality will drop off as a result of trying to meet the demand

Well, I agree on both sides - as a business they have to stop putting resources into shelf ware and other stuff that just doesn't sell so they can make more stuff that does sell and make more money. On the other side my favorite Jackson guitar is the SLS which they stopped making entirely most likely to bad sales. Being short scale and a hard tail with a headstock that wasn't the normal Jackson headstock is was probably doomed from the beginning. It's an incredible guitar and I've tried to get another for a backup but they are very hard to find. So I guess I'm saying I understand why they are doing what they are doing but I hate the fact that they are doing it

What really sucks is what FMIC is doing to Hamer - another great guitar company. They no longer make ANY production guitars and are custom order only with much higher prices then before. Jol is gone so I don't know who is setting future direction but if you try to get a guitar quoted, or at least when I did, I was told by the dealer they are too busy now building US Gretsch guitars to take the order. I have no way to verify that though. Either way it's a sad day for Hamer fans.

Sure it does. It just carries over to the Squier and Epiphone lines. Then, not to mention, look at the new "American" Fender line. Now, you can get a USA-made Fender for around $700. Unfortunately, I can't recall what the exact name of the series is, but it's been released within the past few years.

Regarding guitar companies, like any other company, once a product has an image, it's expected to withhold that image. It's an identity issue, especially when it comes to a niche product, or a "limited" brand. A Jackson guitar with a different headstock? A travesty! A Corvette with a V6? The end of the world! A Mustang GT with a V6? Forget it! A Porsche 911 with a total body restyle? Consider them bankrupt! A Harley-Davidson with a Porsche-built engine (Yes, the V-Rod has a Porsche engine...)? I know A TON of people who won't even consider that bike a Harley, let alone, consider it at all!

People come to expect certain things of their beloved passions, and when they fall short, they get very upset. Jackson saw the writing on the wall and yanked the line. As you stated, "It was probably doomed from the beginning." They realized they screwed up by straying too far from their image, and that it was a mistake. There are a lot of great products out there, and what kills them is either the name, or the fact they stray too far away from the brand reputation. Case in point is the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO. It was a great car, BUT it was NOT made in America, and GM put a "GTO" badge on it. Had that car been called anything but a "GTO," it would have been a huge seller.

We all know that the word "Fender" will be of a certain importance following what I'm going to say.

I've just watched the catalog and price list, SO AWFUL. Most of my favourite things have disappeared. The RR5FR for example, I wanted a pink one SO MUCH, now I'll have to either order it from the CS for 5 grand, or buy it as a reguler RR5 without the Floyd. The Black/Yellow RR24, which was one of the most sought after ones. WR1 in Orange is long gone, SL1 in Nebula is gone, the KE5FR is gone, you get the point.


FENDER, WHAT THE FRIGGIN FUCK ARE YOU DOING TO US ? KILLING THE BEST HEAVY GUITAR MANUFACTURER IN THE WHOLE FUCKING BUSINESS ?
