  • Questions on 2 recent purchases

I picked up a 1993 King V Professional and a 1996 RR Performer. Each came with their Jackson hard shell case. The cases are in great condition. I paid $425 all together. Do you think that was a fair price?

The RR model is weird. It has OBL pickups which I've never heard of before. I think they must be active because there is a battery compartment on the bottom wing of the guitar.

    Here are some pics.

OBL pickups were used by Hamer, Dean, and a couple of other manufacturers in the very late '80s/early '90s. if i remember right, they were made by bill lawrence - "Original Bill Lawrence - OBL". I don't remember them being active, but then and again i tend to eschew active pickups, so it is possible that there were active OBLs that i just never noticed.

as far as $425 being a good price? i think so. ultimately it is a good price if you are happy. both guitars look nice.
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Yes, I'm happy. I love the King V but the RR Performer is a POS! It came as a package deal though.

At least the performer is Japanese and not Korean made (you can tell by the 12th fret spacing). Electronics, pickups and a trem swap (if you use it) usually takes these from POS to decent player status IMO.

These OBL pickups that we have were made by Epiphone under license of the original Bill and Becky pickups. I have one and love it. Not active though.
