I picked up a Charvel 475 deluxe this weekend. It was FILTHY when I bought it, but some guitar polish, fretboard conditioner, and oil for the corroded tremolo cleaned it up pretty well. The tremolo was so nasty it was like - hairy. $225 w/ hard Charvel case. The body has some chips, too bad, it's a pretty guitar. Nice flame top and matching flame on the back. Original pickups and JE1200 (pots are totally shot though, when you turn them you get lots of loud popping sounds). It plays really well (it had strings when I bought it, but I took them off to clean the guitar). I'm considering just keeping the neck and tremolo and using them for a Warmoth project but I might just keep it together and not start a new project.

nice guitar! IMO, you should just keep it the way it is. its too nice of a body to abandon into a parts mutt. I have one of those, and they are damn nice guitars. You can always find a better "donor" guitar for a project that isnt in as nice as shape as this one. and you can get some touch up paint to fix those chips. sure its not a pro fix, but its better than nothing, and from a few feet away, you cant tell the difference. with a little patience and some white paint, you can redo the pickup cover logos too."clean sounds are for pussies" - Axewielder

First thoughts: Cool, nice axe
Next though after seeing the chips: Ouch!
I'd not waste the time getting a Warmouth. Jacksons have special neck pockets / bridge locations. Warmouth could do it but you run the risk of an F up because of the added complexity.

Nice acquisition. I picked up a red 475 a couple of months ago. I brought it to my luthier for a setup and to check the wiring. It had one paint chip that I touched up and the middle pickup and input needed to be replaced. I found a J200 pickup online. After I got it back I was really surprised how awesome this guitar is. Honestly, the stock Jackson pickups on this guitar rock!! I wouldn't part it out.

Agreed - I'd leave it as-is. With the age of these things, a little wear and tear is to be expected. Heck, look at Fender selling 'relics', that are PRE-worn...at least yours is legit.
That's a really good looking guitar. It always kind of bugged me that those didn't have the recess/cutaway thing for your picking arm, though. My 375 (I think) was like that.

Those are flat tops because of the flame veneer should be a 92-93.
I have had both Charvel and Jackson versions and they are killer guitars.
The popping is pretty common with the vol pots but shoot some electronics cleaner in the pot and that will go away.
I say leave it as is just too nice a guitar to part out.
The musiclander is one ugly body.Really? well screw Mark Twain.
