  • Can you identify this Soloist?

    Hi guys,

Can somebody tell me which soloist this is.
I'm a bit confused as I thought they always come with the OFR and this one has the licensed FR. The pot knobs are probably replaced.
The guitar is really heavy, like mahogany.
The serial number is 020202 - how to decode?
Can you tell if this is the real thing?
    Thanks!

    Here are the pics:

I think (almost sure) it's a SL3, MIJ, alder w/flame maple top, MOTO inlays,
Duncan JB, hot rails x2. Nice axe.

      Thanks!
      But with licensed fr?
Also it's much heavier than the other SL3 I came in contact with. And the other one has the OFR.
      I'm confused

The SL3s came with the LFR at first (and Duncan Designed pickups). Later models got the OFR and real Duncans. Though, the trems can be swapped out easily. And as far as weight goes, different guitars can vary with their weight.

So it's probably safe to assume somebody has swapped the FR for some extra cash right?
Do you know what would be the production date?

My SL3 is 030404. Trans red quilted maple body and headstock MIJ, Alder body, black licensed floyd and all original Seymour Duncan pickups but no hot rails, although I think the guitars came with them. Knobs should be black or silver in your case.

              I am guessing yours is a 2002 and mine a 2003 model?

Unless that's 92 and 93? - NO they were XL or Pro models only with Professional on the headstock. I reckon yours is a 2002 model SL3 more or less stock with Licensed Floyd and crappy pot knobs.

No. Like Joe said, that's the licensed trem (Jackson JT-580LP, iirc) that the SL3 came with until very recently. Notice how the trem recess cavity has the slanted angle to follow the back edge of the baseplate. If it had an OFR originally, the cavity would be squared off there.

Yeah, the JT-590 is the Schaller model.

Yeah, I think they kept the 6 digit serial numbers for the neck throughs, whilst everything else went to seven.
