- Buy a used Strat. Sand some of the paint off, soak the pickup covers in coffee, bang your key ring into it, etc. Lie to everyone that the wear came about by honestly "playing the hell out of it." Total price? Let's say $700.
- Buy a used "relic" Strat, that someone else sanded some paint off of, soaked the pickup covers in coffee, banged their key ring into it. Have no real knowledge of how the wear came about, but decide one can assume it came about by honestly having the hell played out of it by the previous owner, who must have been a touring musician, who fell on some hard luck and had to pawn his number one. Price? $3,000.

This reminds me of the Dinky Rev. Professional I bought over the phone from a GC in Pittsburgh. They'd listed it on the website with a five-star rating, which I assume means the condition. It also appeared to be black. What showed up was a purple guitar with both pickup rings cracked, a lot of dings down to the wood and a chipped headstock. If that's five stars, I'd hate to see four or fewer!
I did keep it and it plays pretty nice, but it's still purple, and that's hurting my death metal street cred as you can imagine.

I meant no disrespect to players of purple guitars. Especially a freakin' Rand! How long have you had that?

I always fancied A KB Rhoads as its one of the only affordable models that doesn't have a control rout and strachplate on the face of it. So in that respect it kind of like a custom RR.
If I could find a wreck with a good neck at at good price, plan would be to cut the horn down and do a Siberian tiger Bengal stripe paint job so it looked like Chris Holmes'. But then you'd still be stuck with those stupid satanic pentagon inlays, rather than the Tony Crucifixes on the Holmes guitar. Don't think you could change that.
They were making around £425 over her last years, but I've seen them go as low as £330 which is roughly around $450, with only slight nicks on the points.
Regardless, I'm sure with the way things are heading, next year they will probably only make £280 and the year after that, come winter folks will be burning them for firewood to keep themselves warm and using the strings as garrotes and snares to try and find some protein to eat, human or animal to keep themselves alive....
Oh well. You can't really be jealous of something you can't fathom.
