Hey... How about this as food for thought... I'm an admin and none of my guitars are in the gallery... hmmmmmmm

We need to do sumpin about that now, that is just not cool. But I do understand it does take time. I am just so dagnambed proud of her and I want everyone to see. Not too many people can say they own a guitar that use to be owned by their favorite guitarist of all time, along with the history of the guitar itself.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, I'd rather take care of the backlog before I even think about putting my guitars there. Besides, I've got my own galleries going on my site. I'm in no hurry.

Re: OK Sully please post in gallery

Can't the Gallery be converted to a user-post format (like the board) where registered members can post their own guitars and the info? It'd mean the pics would have to be hosted on our own sites and not the JCF, but that's easy enough to do.

Just something to consider.

This is not a rant and is not to meant as any kind of slam or anything of the sort, but "We're looking into it" has been the standard issue answer for this question the last two times I asked it, and seriously, what is there to consider? Is it a programming issue or an Administration (policing/damage control) issue?
Is there concern that people will use the User-editable Gallery function to create posts to house their opinions/inflammatory remarks/personal attacks/rants/porn and enjoy the fact that no one can post a rebuttal in that post (except the Admins), thereby giving the Admins something else to watch over? If that's the biggest issue, I'd say get over it - people are generally azsholes and they will try to find a way to use it as such and that's just the way it will always be. You can certainly set the software to send you emails whenever something new is posted, and I'm sure there are functions to alert you of certain keywords. I'm also sure that if anything like that was posted in the Gallery, other users would email you about it. It's not like it would sit there for weeks. Obviously anyone who did post flames/rants in the Gallery would be banned on the first offense, so that would pretty much take care of that. Whoever's gonna rant is gonna rant, and the responsible parties can go on posting/updating their Gallery listings and contribute to the community.

If, on the other hand, it's just a programming issue - RTFM

It simply means that with the MOAIP being worked on and the guitar generator,Contests,Dealers, etc .. that until a few days ago we had limited resource to achive these goals ... so some considerations are being made.

If you need/want help with the MOAIP to make it go faster, ask. You know that many members have the catalogs and can scan them if asked. Don't be afraid to ask for help - this doesn't all have to be done by the admins.

When I say resource it has nothing to do with what we don't have. Todd is coding the moaip. There's a lot of info and it takes time. Resource simply meant the amount of admins that could work on the gallery/time to do it. It's been a busy time for me personally this spring/summer .. same with Sully ... that was what was intended as "limited resource"

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I understand that, however I get the feeling you guys are taking this a little too seriously; it's not a financial empire, it's an internet message board. You've got 4 guys trying to do it all in their spare time like it's a business, and it ain't all that.
Seriously, this is a great place and you four do a great job, but it seems you're all trying a little too hard to make sure everything is strictly under your control (editing, updating, info pages) and I do understand the hazards of letting "just anyone" whack away at things, but certainly you can find someone out of the 1400+ registered members to trust with lending a coding hand without recruiting them as official admins?

No, I'm not nominating myself - I can do HTML and that's it - I don't do CGI scripts. I can poke around and figure stuff out and eventually get it to do what I want, but not at any mentionable level.

It's a community, right? Let's see if we can all work together to make it better and provide the features that benefit the community.

Again .. it's being discussed ... this was something that Sully and I discussed just last night .. it still needs to be talked aobut with the other admins .. your right .. it's not an overly serious thing, and while it's not a business there are certain aspects of this board that are run like a business. The advertising you see isn't free ..it's paid for ..and that money doesn't go into our pockets .. it goes into the board ...so again ..Todd is learning to do parts of the gallery, (He is new, takes time), There is another individual that is being looked at to help. While we have 1400+ members ..giveing them asccess to the gallery goves them access to every corner of the JCF .. so chill and let us look into it and let Todd ramp up a bit ...

With that said I don't think I've seen one submission for the gallery recemtly from you Newc... so why so pushy?

Not being pushy (sorry if it seemed that way), just trying to keep things in perspective. I realize the ad revenue has to be managed properly, and I fully expect the admins to be the ones to take care of that to eliminate certain possibilities.
You have not seen gallery submissions from me for a long while because for a while I didn't have anything new to add, and when I finally did, the Curator (Sully, at the time, I think - may have been Jeremy) was backed up with submissions, and I opted to put my old band's domain to use as my gallery. Once the gallery is functional again (updated regularly), I do plan to submit my 'lifelong keepers', but until then there's no sense in me adding to the gridlock.

Gallery access is easy enough to control - give the Gallery a separate password. There should be a few handy ready-made free scripts available somewhere (Matt's Script Archive?) that can be adapted to fit the need? Maybe instead of a universal password that everyone uses to upload/edit their Gallery submissions (as the Curator would have now), each registered member's submission priveledge is attached to their login priveledge? This way, only registered users can create gallery entries, and each member can only edit an entry they made (i.e. better pic, better description, changed owners, etc). Could it be based on the MemberProfile script? Change a few things in it to make it re-route to the Gallery page, maybe?
As I said, I don't do CGI scripts so I can't say how easy or difficult implementing that would be - just offering ideas that may not have been under consideration.

Re: OK Sully please post in gallery

As far as us taking all of this too seriously for a non-paying gig... I can only speak for myself when I say: Well, that's just the way I am. I always view a larger picture. I never know who's looking at my work and I never really know if the fruits of my labor will lead into something bigger or better, so I always give it my all. I always take a lot of pride in what I do, maybe sometimes too much. But that's just me. Overachiever?? Sometimes, but information is my specialty. I've built my professional career around it.

Wow... I'd kept it kind of quiet that I was working on the MOAIP, oh well, the cat's outta the bag...

Here's what's happening: I'm using PHP and MySQL database technology to build the MOAIP from it's original form of HTML pages. Kevin E. did a great job with the original, but it's very bandwidth intensive and to top it all, we're not allowed to use it as-is. I am fully aware that there are issues regarding some of the information being incorrect in the original MOAIP. I can even see how it happened. After the first release we'll be looking for help from you, the members, in submitting corrections. I've stuck with the old pages (and actually some info from the new Jackson site) just to get a database structure in place. When v 1.0 is released, it will be basic. You'll have a list of models and you can look at the specs. Subsequent releases will become more interactive, I've got some huge ideas regarding the future of the MOAIP.

The MOAIP and it's structure will be important to the future of the gallery because in the interest of continuity, we'll probably use the same technology to upgrade the gallery to make it interactive. Right now we're taking chief learnings from building the MOAIP to incorporate into the structure of the Gallery.
