This whole topic has the same feel as the "illegal MP3 downloads" debate. Put is that perspective, what's being asked for here is the equivalent of Vanilla Ice vs Queen. If you owned the copyrights to something would you like it if other people ripped it off?

Indeed, that's one of the coolest headstock designs there is!

Oh fuck same here, I'd love to get a custom Sully guitar when the time is right. That headstock looks evil in black with white binding

Please keep in mind that you'd be licensing the design so you'd be making some money off of it. I think this falls into the "different strokes for different folks" category. There's a well known builder who's name I forget, (obviously not well known enough I guess? ) that will actually show people how to take his designs.

Also my original comment was made in context towards Gibson + the banana headstock.

I look at it this way; the headstock trademark makes the smaller builder come of up with his own design and hopefully establish an identity for themselves. If it’s good, people will buy it. I’ll also say that I’m taking steps to protect my own headstock designs because I’d be pissed royally if I saw something I came up with on someone else’s guitar.

I can see both sides of it; I understand the original poster’s concern and that it appears as if the guitar that he wants doesn’t exist. I’m empathetic to that. I think that it’s a drag that Jackson won’t do Roundhorn Vs and Firebirds anymore; they weren’t copying a headstock, and the body shapes ARE of different dimensions. That said, it’s helped me out a bit. There’s also another side of it when you have someone that wants X but doesn’t want to pay for it and still believes that they should be able to have X. I think that us little guys deal with that a bit more, though.

"We don't need no steenking principles..."
Actually, got in touch w/ a dealer who has moved a LOT of guitars for Hamer ( and submitted a lot of custom orders) over the years and is now hooked up with Charvel/Jackson. He promises that once established, he'd be willing to put some pressure on behind the scenes to make a neck thru w/ reversed Strat head happen. We'll see...

I think your best bet on getting a Star with a banana headstock is to order a neck and body through KNE. If you want a neck-through though, that's another story altogether.

no they wont do anyother headstocks but their own. After my experience with Michael and Wayne, i wouldnt buy anything from them. When i had an issue with my Wayne, they did nothing but make excuses and told me none of the rock stars they made guitars for had any issues.
