Thread resuscitation- did a search for Star shaped axes for sale and came across Wayne and Michael Charvel's website and lo and behold- dudes make stars and as custom as ya wanna pay for. Who knew? Wonder if they'd be willing to do a sorta-banana shaped heady?

The "San Dimas" neck option on the Jackson order form refers to the older pseudo-Strat headstock. Not the Fender Strathead available on Charvels. Only the AS and PC models are authorized to have real stratheads in the Jackson line. That's referred to as the "licensed Fender Strat" headstock on the order forms.

"San Dimas" shape can also refer to the neck shape dimensions used on the Charvel stratheads. You also see this a lot in referring to Charvel neck options.

However, in the note above, I believe "San Dimas" is referring to the Charvel Strat body style.

That's pretty lame... Personally I'd just go with Ran. I understand Jackson not doing a Gibson body with a B.C. Rich headstock, but Jackson can't use the Fender headstock? They already use it on the Adrian Smith model?

I believe if you're paying that much, you shouldn't have to "settle" for anything. Or we could all pitch in and buy Jackson/Charvel from Fender and do what we want.

That being said, I get it that I'm one lone, disgruntled customer and it does not necessitate that FMIC and the world suddenly sit up and take notice. My course of action is clear- take my business elsewhere. It's a basic tenet of modern commerce and capitalism. But alas, it's also a sad commentary on what happens when large corporations swallow up smaller, customer-oriented businesses. I won't pretend to know how the J/C shops run but I'm wondering what possible reason J/C could have for their restrictions?

The Desolation DS-1 FR has a single-cutaway mahogany body with a carved top and neck-through-body design.

But yes, there are some set neck models too.

I believe that was just the neck specs, width, radius, thickness, etc.

I'm torn between standing firm on principle and finding a builder who will make my ax per my every spec AND settling for what Jackson will build, knowing the build quality and materials will most likely be great.
It's official though- gonna have to do the pointy hs on Jackson neck thru. This is what I have envisioned-

Well, there's an argument to be made for brand definition between the two. i.e., Charvels should all be bolt-ons and Jacksons should be (predominantly) neck-throughs. Personally, I don't subscribe to that argument for a number of reasons. Nonetheless, I can understand that point of view, even if I don't agree with it.
