  • tone and playability differences between rr1 and rr1t?

Hey guys, im in the market for a new rr1 as an upgrade from my rr5fr.

If the function of the fr was not an issue (i dont use the floyd much and i have other guitars with fr), what would be the tone and playability differences between the rr1 and rr1t (tune o matic bridge)?

its mainly for thrash riffage and lead work, just wanted to see which i should go for, is therer any differences in tone? i.e- sustain and generaly tonal qualities? is there any differences in playability- i.e- action, the ability to attack the strings, the "responsiveness" of the strings? and other general difference you could point out for me?

thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Compare to floyd, the TOM bridges are somewhat less stable because of the nut especially for the pointy jackson head. The string angle on the nut is the problem on this one. So, you might want to use a good nut on that one.

Are you talking about an RR1T being tuning unstable? I have used one for years and NEVER have had tunning problems. In fact its one of the most solid and stable guitars I have ever owned. My only little trouble with the RR1 and T is the pick gaurd sometimes catches a finger on my right hand as it glides up and down the body as I pick, but I deal with it fine. Other than that they are GREAT guitars. I have owned both the RR1 and the RR1T and I much prefer the RR1T.

From what i've heard, you can't do double stops on an RR1. Also, it doesn't have any blues-rock chatter, which the RR1T is more likely to possess.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

What does Bill have anything to do with this? I'm waiting for ginsambo and tonemonster to chime in.

Billz blasted 3reach in another thread, but yeah, gins and tone will make this interesting as well.

If anything, a hardtail plays 'stiffer' then a floyd equipped guitar, being a bit more responsive in pickattack and bends
Still don't think this will make a guitar with either setup less for any musical application

It is mainly a matter of preference. One of the issues you may want to consider is your different tunings. If you are a person that likes to QUICKLY change to different tunings for different songs, than the RR1T will better suit you. Floyds may require changing the tension on the claw springs during drastic tuning changes.

Unlike the KV, the RR1 and RR1T are very similar outside of the obvious bridge difference. I've got a RR1T and it just chatters away.

The RR1 will have a recessed Floyd, so there really won't be any neck angle. The RR1T has a TOM bridge, so the neck will be angled back a little more and the bridge will be higher off the body compared to the Floyd.

I found the RR1T balances better than the RR1.
