  • CS Jackson and their serial numbers

    Hi guys.
Sometimes I see a CS Jackson (with custom shop logo on the headstock) with serial number starting at U0*****
According official Jackson web site, they says that CS guitar should have serial starting with J letter. Could some1 clear this things out?
    Thanks.

In the old days there were a few times that happened but in the last few years we're seeing it more and more. A lot of times there will be a Production USA that later gets painted and becomes "Custom" so the original U serial number is there. Keep in mind too that any Rhoads Custom is "RR" and not "J" although there a few mistakes with that.

The only thing you can be sure about custom shops are the ones with J, JA, RR serials.

I always wondered if the "U" serial Customs were actually grabbed from the "U" stock, given whatever "Customization" (paint, etc) and then marked up to CS pricing? Shouldn't a CS's price hike include better wood/attention to detail than a USA Select? I mean, you can't improve on perfection, but you can sure as hell make sure of it.

Knowing Jackson... it's probably a bit of both. Sometimes they just screw up and put the wrong number on it and other times they grab a finished USA select to customize.

But, putting the serial number on the guitar used to be one of the last steps before shipping... not sure about now.

There was also a Soloist that mistakenly got the RR stamp.

LOL Was it on ebay? I thought Jim Shine or someone else here had it awhile ago.

I just found out that a guitar I acquired last month is a custom shop piece. Does anyone here have access to a serial number index? I was told when I purchased it that it was an artist's guitar but have no supporting documentation. Thanks
