Wow, this got off topic quickly. It went from "Is this chick a member" to "These girls are only looking for attention" then to Nazi's

I have a gig that sometimes requires learning 4 to 6 new cover songs (sometimes songs I've never heard before) including leads in just a few hours. With the internet, I can pull up the songs on YouTube and listen and move around in a song with ease. I often opt to listen to the songs on YouTube even when I have the CDs for the songs....it's just easier/quicker to bounce around between songs. Further, I can look up tabs for a lot of the songs. They usually don't sound totally right, but I use them as a baseline and tweak with my ear from there. Finally, if I'm really stumped, I can often search YouTube for a live recording of the artist playing the song and look what the guitar player is doing with their hands. Further, live mixes are usually simpler and it can be easier to tell what's going on as compared to a multi-tracked, overproduced studio recording.
Back in the day it was mostly.........listen and rewind, listen and rewind, over and over. Occasionally you might find a pro tab in a guitar magazine....or spend the bucks on an artist folio. To get the basics down, I had the Metal Method videos.
Yes, guitar playing still requires a lot of practice and dedication, but if a person has access to the internet, it is ABSOLUTELY easier to learn today than it was just a few years ago.
It`s the VOLUME of information that`s available that`s the big help...
...but learning someone else`s stuff note for note is`nt gonna help you develope as a player if you don`t know the theory behind it....
It will just be put your fingers here and do this...
You can also get theory lessons on youtube
Lately I`ve been watching dudes doing the early EVH stuff on guitar (youtube) and yeah, I pick up bits here and there from it (alot like lessons)...
They get the tabs, practice their ass off with the song over and over for days, weeks, months, then record it and I push a button and sit there and watch it close up.
I learn from it and it`s entertaining...
So guys.... errr, ummm....what were we talking about again?

I haven't even watched the OP's video yet and don't really care at the moment as internet semiotics seems more interesting topic as some get butthurt because of names yet are indifferent to words with actual meaning and their socio-political effects.Hail yesterday

I must admit I found it annoying that there are so many guys (most like 50yrs old+ guys) making out that she is an amazing talent, when she is mediocre at best (particularly when she isn't playing the second intro riff, the best riff in the song, correctly at all - she's taking a huge short cut). Their playing just kinda sucked in general and their attempts to rock out and be "hot metal chicks" just looked try hard and laughable to me.Last edited by Dooky; 01-11-2012, 08:50 PM.Guitars:
