IMO, I would get a used one I have about 20 Jackson's which I all bought used and Only one of them is Japanese but it's still a great playing guitar. You can get used ones in mint condition for one third the price.

RR3's are quality instruments, you won't be dissapointed with one. It doesn't have some of the frills that the higher end models have... But still nice.

A grand is an awful lot for an rr3. IMO

+1 on gettin a used one. If they put a reverse headstock on it, 24 frets and got rid of the pickguard id consider it, but just adding binding isnt worth it to me.

Pick up a used RR1 for $1000 and call it a day.

RR3 is a very good guitar. You will enjoy it. 849 is a decent price for what is there.
