I find it interesting that Fender, a company who knows how the shape of a headstock is part of recognizing a brand, would change the shape of the Jackson headstock. After all, Fender sued anyone who copied the fender heads. If this is just a single model and the rest will have our standard pointy heads and sharkfins for years to come, no problem. I just don't understand why Fender would make the same mistake they've made in the past and screwed with THE most recognized shape associated with Jackson.
Turn the volume to 10 and rip off the knob!

Dude the SLS headstock (or smurf hat as some people call it) has been around for donkey's years, what are you talking about?
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

Plus, there is a reasoning behind using an SLS headstock instead of a regular pointy one for a 7-string. Better tuning stability first of all since the angle of the strings from the nut to the tuning peg is more or less a straight line and therefore the tension is even across all strings. Don't get me wrong, i love pointies as much as the next guy but i think it's refreshing to have some more production models with the SLS headstock.

Doesn't matter anyway since it has a locking nut.
I'm with ya. I really don't get the hate for that design at all.

Very kind of you to say. Thanks!

As far as the guitars go, I'm ambivalent, and agree that they kinda look like everything else that's out there. Then again, if that's what's selling (especially at a lower price point), you gotta do what you gotta do. I don't like the MIC aspect, and I wasn't crazy about the Kaman collaboration on the new Charvel imports, but if they drive revenue, that's a good thing.

Huh? That headstock was created before the buyout.

The Jackson KV2T had that headstock aswell as The Jackson SLS as people have already said, plus Fender has used 5 different headstocks and currently uses 3 of them, the Telecaster being the original, the original strat headstock , the large strat headstock (also seen on the Jaguar and Mustang),the "Arrow" headstock seen on less popular discontinued models Katana and Swinger and the Fender Electric XII.

I agree that 7 string pointy heads look way too long. I've seen one in a pawn shop and was like wtf?

I just wonder why Jackson doesn't create a brand new design from scratch? I mean everyone is using these same style heads.

The reverse 7-inline doesn't look too bad, but the SLS 4x3 is much better since you do get straight string pull to the tuners. With 7 strings pulling the head at an angle, it's easier to snap.

But if FMIC is trying to drag Jackson and Charvel kicking and screaming into conformity with the typical FMIC scheme, they need to crank out Official/Authorized Replacement Parts in various varieties - bodies and necks so us Mutt-Makers can make our Mutts. Get Warmoth to do CORRECT Jackson necks; ebony boards, rosewood, maple, etc, fins, binding, 24 frets the correct way, etc etc.
Dinky bodies, Warrior bodies, Kelly bodies, Rhoads bodies. Yeah they'd be bolt-ons. But I have no problem if they wanna do like Carvin does and sell neckthrough parts with decent options.

I mean, if I'm gonna have a Jackson guitar built by questionable labor to a questionable quality spec, I'll do it myself, because let's face it: it doesn't get any more questionable than me

And I'm really liking the finish options for these, but I'd really like to see some FINISH OPTIONS FOR THE FUCKING WARRIOR!

Silverburst, Kawasabi Green, maybe some color+bevel options (besides black with white/white with black). It looks like they're doing better trans finishes on the imports these days (the PCS Chlorine I had was way too dark), so let's see something besides Trans Black.
I have yet to see the Trans Blue in person (waiting on an Ebay seller who isn't on crack), but i like it in the pics.
