I seem to recall an add posted in another thread awhile back stating that the sharkies Jackson uses were originally drawn up by Randy Rhoads. I think it was pretty independent of Rickenbacker, but Rickenbacker do have guitars from the 50s using similar inlays.

Rickenbacker was first of course, but Randy modded the design for maximum coolness!

So far as I know, Rickenbacker introduced them. Then Jackson made em a bit "sharper", and popularized them.

That's kinda like saying Gibson invented the Rhoads body style because they introduced the V. Randy must have dropped one and broken off a wing.

Randy designed the inlays. He was most likely inspired by the Rickenbacker, but if you've seen one in person, they don't remind me of sharkies, but they do look similar.

Apple likes to think they invented the rectangle with rounded corners.
