It's not specifically Pro versus USA Select, IMHO it's more passive vs active.
I've compared the Jackson active pickups in my Charvel 650XL to the active EMGs and Duncans in my new Charvel Desolation imports to the passive EMGs and Duncans in my DXMG and RR1.
In every case the active pickups sound thinner.

I liked the Kent Armstrong pickups they used in the RR2, otherwise all the pickups that come stock with the Rhoads have been kinda crappy. EMG 85's sound good and thicken the sound for a thin sounding guitar, usually.

And as other people have said, other really high gain pickups work well.

I absolutely hate the JB and I think it sounds bad in a Rhoads, personally.
