I was actually set up on a blind date in a Chinese restaurant with Shania and I reckoned she would have fucked on the the first date too.
But whilst I was waiting for her to show, a fortune cookie read "never the Twain shall meet" so I bailed.

This is djent. I am much reminded of "sugary pop played with 8 string guitars".

This one even has clean vocals! Oh no!

      I like EL34s.

Periphery. That's it. Animals as Leaders are progressive metal bordering on Fusion. Between The Buried and Me are progressive metal with some death metal and hardcore thrown in. Protest The Hero are progressive metal. iwrestledabearonce are... shit and apparently black metal(?) now? (Saw it on metalsucks... seriously...), Job For A Cowboy are deathcore/death metal... A7X are... shit... BDM are melodic death metal/metalcore

Furthermore... The only Periphery song that uses an 8-string is "Ji". It uses every string. It's not poppy, it's not catchy, it's quite difficult. Now I don't know about you but usually songs that progress as much as that one do not appeal to pop fans.

I have owned 8 strings for a while now, but I have found it

Yup, there is a sing along chorus, and clean vocals. The guitar lines on the other hand are really cool, and in terms of structure it's all over the place.

I kinda liked the first song, but the second one I did not.

I'd have to judge all those bands individually, but I'm stuck here with the flu so I'd rather not.

I don't care for Periphery. Some of the riffs are ok, but as a whole I just don't really care for it.

That Vildhjarta is alright. I like tech shit, but this does start to get boring kind of quick. Like when Gorguts did Obscura, cool for a minute - hard to play, technically insane and all that, but soon a headache ensues. Buuunnng squeekk beerrr squeek boww. I do that sometimes when i'm really high and laugh at it - i didn't think it was an art form. Before everyone was using 7 and 8 strings, remember we used to tune down to A and shit too on 6 string guitars. I can still appreciate what they are doing though i think it would be better if they used it for effect instead of the entire meat of the songs. That stuff is best enjoyed live imo. Anyway, if i was younger i guess i would be a lot more chuffed on it.

That Pheriphery song is ok at first, until it starts to sound like boy band in the middle then it looses me. It's not the music, but the sound of the singer. No balls. I hate vocals like that unless it's a chick singing them.

I love Gorguts and Immolation. Yeah, I kinda have to be in a mood to listen to Gorguts, but Immolation is one of my all time favorites along with Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, among others..

Just to clarify, it wasn't my intention to call the others "djent" - except for Animals As Leaders. I was simply labeling them all as "modern metal" with ties to the whole -core thing. Which ruffles my feathers, in case you haven't noticed.

Gorguts! Amazing band. Now if someone would just re-release "Obscura" on a format I am willing to buy it on so I don't have to weep when I see the price the CD reaches on ebay

I think Phil let MC live a little too long, but the first 5 or 6 are just genius. And yeah, I can never tire of Immolation or Suffocation. I actually like From Wisdom to Hate more than Obscura... but they're both great albums. That's like asking if Holy Grail or Life of Brian is better, I'll give a different answer depending on my mood. I think a lot of that ground breaking DM was just amazing for it's day.

I have owned 8 strings for a while now, but I have found it hard to write with them for 2 reasons. One, it's pretty hard to escape the Nothing era Meshuggah...

Haha, I'm embarrassed to even listen to this song. The chorus is pure pop. It makes me feel nothing except "fuck, I hope no else can hear me listening to this right now." And they're like one "groovy" riff away from sounding like Korn or something.

I'll agree with everyone on that. I don't generally like tech death, but I can definitely appreciate it and get down to it on occasion.

This sounds so fake and processed it may as well be Michael Jackson eating a Happy Meal.

What about that was good at all? There's no fucking riffs and the song goes absolutely nowhere; it morphs from some potentially interesting serpentine low note wankery to a bizarre wannabe Radiohead rip-off section (i actually feel embarassed even mentioning Radiohead in the same sentence as Periphery). Now top that off with boy band vocals that would make a 13-year-old Justin Bieber fan wet and DAW overprocessing (beatslicing, automated panning, quantisation, etc.).

And just so you know, there's absolutely nothing wrong with clean vocals, strange rythms and melodies in Metal:

Xeno, it seems you have excellent taste in music. Immolation are fucking killer, might as well throw this one in as well:

Here's some more interesting shit played on 8-strings:

It's all about the blues-rock chatter.
