  • My Visit to the House of Roman

Okay, so I had to go Las Vegas this past weekend for a business meeting. I worked the trip so I had an extra couple days and brought the wife along, since she never gets to accompany me on my many travels.

Anyway, the point of my story is not the lovely weekend I spent with my wife. It's a little sidetrip I took while I was there, to Ed Roman's World Class Guitars showroom. I figured what the heck, I've spent enough time on his site, looking at the guitars, scratching my head over his opinions and "knowledge" (notice the quotation marks...that means I was being sarcastic there), and hearing everybody wail on the guy in every guitar forum I frequent. I mean, I feel like I almost know the guy, so why not drop in and say hello?

Well, drop in I did, say hello I did not. In fact, I only saw him for a brief second. He popped out of a door, barked a few things to his toadies, then ducked back through the door. I gotta tell ya, I don't think he looks much like a leprechaun. Leprechauns are small and wily. Ed is short and wide. In fact, he seemed exactly as wide as he was high. He was like a box. With crazy, sweaty, all over the place red hair. And really thick calves.

Anyway, that aside, let's talk about the showroom. Pretty darn cool, if you ask me. Granted, it was like a museum == everything had a "DO NOT TOUCH" sign on it, but I'll de doggoned if he didn't have at least two of everything...and usually a lot more than two. The front room seemed to me to be all his Roman brand specials...the copies, pearlcasters, Monkeycasters, whatever. All seemed to look very nice actually. After that, you walk into a big room with lots of little rooms off it. There were tons of old Kramers. Lots of heritages. The new Mosrites. High end Deans. Lots of Ricks. Three or four new Waynes, a bunch of the recent Charvel Journeymen and such. Lots of old Ibanez Icemans (Icemen?) and stuff. PRSs. Gibsons, Fenders, etc. etc.

I tell you, if you like looking at guitars -- and I do -- it's a pretty cool place. I didn't get to play anything, and I got the distinct feeling that if I wanted to, they would've pestered me about "are you looking to buy today?" Still, it's nice to go into a guitar store and see something other than the usual wall of Squiers and Epiphones.

I'm sure some of you will disagree with me on this, but i gotta say it: If you're ever in Vegas, definitely take the time to check it out. No matter how you feel about our l'il buddy Ed.

I was there a couple of months ago and saw lots of jacksons a vvv with jackson hang tag, a hot rod flame DK1 import 6or7 soloists, king v's.The number 2 wayne 1 hum star.He does have tons of kramer stuff. He showed me some kramer bodies in the back with graphics still in the packing.I did see a marilyn monroe, lightning sky, checkerboard. All of these bodies had never had a neck bolted on them.Plus he had tons of kramer necks to choose from.He has got the **** no doubt but is asking a heavy price for it.
A very cool place to go indeed.I did buy two original floyds 1 chrome 1 black around 130.00 a piece I thought that was a fair price for a new floyd.

My bad, guys. Guess I was still out of it from my redeye flight back to the east coast when I posted last night.

Yes, there were quite a few Jacksons. And a lot of other brands I forgot to mention.

And sorry, no pics guys. You can get a pretty good idea from the "virtual tour" on his site though.

Re: My Visit to the House of Roman

i visited his place twice when he was in connecticut. he went out of his way for me and my friend, and let us play any instrument in the place. i picked up a the nicest PRS ever, and he came over and asked if i noticed anything about the instrument. he pointed out the fact that the signature on the headstock was personally signed by paul reed smith himself and was made back when he handmade the stuff himself. the guitar was like 9 grand and i played it for at least 20 minutes without a hassle.

the best guitar shop experience ive ever had, and he always speaks very highly about jackson guitars. ed roman is ok in my book.

To say Ed is fat is an understatement. His calves are as wide as a big pork roast. Bigger. He can't even lace up his shoes.

At Winter NAMM a friend was on his travelling tour bus and said Ed had just ate and was covered in food.

I'd go to his shop for the eye candy for sure. But I don't trust that fat lying pig.

A friend of mine heard that Ed Roman went into a restaurant and ate all the food in the restaurant and then they had to close the restaurant.

Re: My Visit to the House of Roman

Eye candy is great, but since Roman has a
reputation as a counterfeiter, you can't know which guitars are real, and which fakes. Therefore, how can you know if ANY of them are real?

Yeah I know what you mean how do you really know if your buying the real thing? He had a B.C.Rich gunslinger there with a graphic that looked pretty cool but the red flag went up I looked closer 1 hum 2 singles and flat neck plate.I'm not saying they didn't make a 1 hum 2 sc gunslinger but I've never seen one.So a parts guitar at best, but 1300.00 -I don't think so big ed.
