I have an 88 or 89 Charvel Predator firecrackel finish red/orange not tricolor, Toothpaste logo(cursave writing). I bought about 15 yrs ago in a pawnshop. The bridge pickup had been replaced. I wanted to put it back origional. My research told me it was a jc90 closed face that was slightly larger physical size than a normal humbucker. I found one on ebay that was supposed to be from an 87 or 88. It was right fit. But I am now wondering if the pickup should have been open faced. I have seen some pictures of them with open face. Any ideas? I once had a mid 80's model 3 (guitar shaped logo) had a closed face j90c.

It should be open faced, but it's the same pickup. the covers do come off but it will have some or a lot of residue to clean off. -
Why not covered? If it fits with the cover go with it. I hate the big gap if you use an uncovered pickup in a large ring. I think the switch to uncovered was around very late 1989.Comment
