Who can fix something like this?

I am thinking of bidding on this guitar, but I want to know what a repair like this will run, and who could do it.



Is it possible to do a spot repair that is nearly perfect, or is a full refinish in order?

Is there anyone on the board who does this sort of work, or are there any suggestions as to who could do it?

I am sure GMW could handle it, but I know they have incredibly long wait times...

And even if it is possible, I don't see the point in fixing it - unless it's supposed to be on exhibition somewhere. It's a guitar that's going to get played, right? In that case, it will get more of those.

You could probably do this yourself
Here's what you'll need
1.Black and white touch up paint
2.Sandpaper 600,1500,2000
3.Masking tape
4.Mild rubbing compound
5.A non abrasive glaze like 3M auto makes
6. Time and patience
Begin by removing any loose chips. lightly sand the corners of the damage to smooth them out a bit. Apply white touch up paint in consecutive light layers untilyou have built it up higher than the surrounding area. Let it cure for 24-48 hrs then wet sand with the 1500 grit until repair is flush with surrounding area. Use the masking tape and mask out the pinstripe lines. Paint it black(I even got a Stones reference in Remove the masking tape and LIGHTLY wet sand the entire repair with the 2000. Use your rubbing compound followed by the glaze. If done patiently the repair can be almost invisible. Good Luck.

And I could offer help as far as the prices & how much your willing to pay & get, I'm an assistant manager at an automobile parts store and have access to alot of tools & stuff, just about everything you need I can get at my cost just let me know what you need. Thanks for all the advice, guys! My RR1 is in the classifieds now, and I'm hoping someone bites on it so I can get the RR1T shown here.

I'm surprised that some people think it should just be left that way... I want my toys to look nice, be it my guitars, my motorcycle, or my home theater (the cleanest room in the house!). Maybe it's a result of my destroying most of my toys when I was a kid, but appearance does mean a lot to me, whether its something I don't use often, or something I use every day.

And actually, it would be on exhibition - most of my guitars hang on the walls of my home theater, as an alternative to movie posters (my theater also serves as my music room).

Experts: feel free to tell me I'm wrong, and I'm only repeating what was told to me for a similar probl I had.....


I was told by one painter that they have to sand down the area, re-primer, re-paint, then re-add the detail. They just can't do one little spot and have to do an area around it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Since I don't gig, and the only place I end up playing is in my basement, there's no reason for it not to stay mint, or close to it. All of my guitars except for one are "players". The one that isn't a "player" is my personal "holy grail" that I was fortunate enough to acquire, and it lives in the case except for the rare occasions that I pull it out and play it.

I know this is a hot topic for the forum members. Many think it is ridiculous to have guitars you don't play, while some may have guitars that never see the light of day. I got my RR5 in February, and the tips are still clean despite it being my favorite axe to play. There is a spot on the pickguard that is getting discolored because my pinky frequently rests against it, but I consider that a sign of love, not abuse. Huge chunks of the finish missing is just not something that should happen in my environment (unless one falls of the wall...).

So, I don't equate keeping a guitar in good condition with not playing it. Maybe if I could play better, I wouldn't care what they looked like! [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

i agree with boxcar and shawn, but i can relate to what you're saying. you're about to buy a guitar, and while it may have dings, etc, you want it to look as nice as it can. nothin wrong with that. if it were a ding on the back or somethin, i'm guessing it may be a different story.
