Re: MATT\'S MUSIC

Expanding on Sully's post, since it's not an official JCF project like the JCF YCE, it can't get a JCF marker. I suppose if it was an Admin-sponsored idea, you could get trussrod covers that said JCF or something, but certainly not a JCFxx serial #.
On that note, are any of the admins getting in on it (KM)? If so, any objection from the other admins about getting www.jcfonline.com engraved on the truss rod covers? It would have to be done outside of Jackson and Matt would have to send the covers to Jackson to be put on (or he could put them on at the store) to save on cost.
Just an idea

As for any option which someone may or may not personally use - as with 24 frets, it's better to have more than you would personally use (i.e. Tone knob) so that it appeals to a wider group, and therefore you have a better chance of selling them. It is easier to unwire a knob that you do not use and does not decrease any resale value, whereas drilling a hole will affect the resale value, though we all know Jacksons do not resell well except for the LTD and PCS and Roswell and other sig models (except the JJ and Kelly). There's no sense in forcing someone who sells theirs later on to take a loss on it because of an added hole, whereas with a simple wiring job (most will change the pickup to suit their needs anyway, be it an EMG or a Duncan or a DiMarzio or a Gibson), you lose more resale by changing the factory pickup than just by disconnecting the Tone knob.

In all honesty, there's at least 500 people here who would be interested in it, but only a handful who would/could actually commit the money. If the specs get too unique, it becomes one person's dream axe and another person's "yeah well I woulda done it different, but it's ok" axe. If everyone involved isn't on an even level about it in terms of acceptance, then it is headed for disaster.
With the JCF01 Rhoads, we had some who at first said they'd rather have something else, but as time progressed, everyone was equally happy with the decision on the model and the specs, and it wasn't because they were browbeaten into accepting it.

Re: MATT\'S MUSIC

Newc, I do understand about the Tone knob, and I would be flexible enough to say, it`s all cool if we got them on the guitar. Now, I think we are finally down to the hardware color, if we have an individual choice, that we be even cooler, but I vote for Black, it is a Metal guitar after all, although, Black Cherry would look great with Gold, one of the only guitar colors i like Gold Hardware on, it`s looks to Bling-Bling to me on most guitars, but Black is still my first choice. It doesn`t seam so far it will get done, but hey I gave it a try, and I understand about the money, beleive me I will have to sell some stuff to get her in the long run, but hey, I can`t have it all Jack.

Now now, don't give up so soon, it's only been a few days. Perhaps if you started a new thread for the idea? Many of the people who would be interested probably don't know what's going on in this thread, since the topic has changed from the original topic.

Make a new post about it and see what comes up

Re: MATT\'S MUSIC

another thing to consider, and what makes it so incredibly difficult is that in order to do it, you CAN'T have options. you gotta make one guitar. that's it. bridge, pickups, hardware color, tone knobs, etc all go out the window if you want to get it at select pricing. ....which i can almost guarantee you you won't get. also, they've sped up their turnaround time, so planning on a year to have the $ for it may not be realistic anymore.

again, not tryin to be a naysaying tool, just speaking from experience of trying to get a guitar made.

as far as making it jcf related, you can do what lloyd did for the yce series and have a shirt made up commemorating it. i'll make a sticky thread for you guys to hammer out specs.

Re: MATT\'S MUSIC

In response to the questions above.

1) Hardware color could be differant on each guitar I suppose, after all they will all be Custom Shop guitars if we're going with the single hum Soloist. But, the pricing might be a little different from guitar to guitar, depending on hardware color. Either way, if hardware color is the only sticking point, we can work around it.

2) I'm the new guy here and I sure don't want to impose on what's been done before. If the JCF logo was used on the last guitar you guys did and if the support isn't there to do something like that again, it's not a problem. But... these are custom shop guitars. Although they will all share the same features, Jackson will build them the way you guys want them built. You tell me what you want on them and between me and Jackson, we'll get it done.

3) As far as the turnaround time goes, I'd be surprised if they came in any sooner than 9 months. I'm easy to deal with, if we can get 10 people on the forum to commit and put down a deposit on the guitars, the rest will be easy. I've got financing available for anyone that needs it through GE Capital and I can go up to 6 months for you with no payments and no interest.

Ok, I gotta get back to my glass of merlot.

Jackson dealers were told they can no longer do ten piece Custom Shop runs and get select pricing, so why are you all even talking about this?

Ok, time to insert my unwelcome opinion on a few things that seem to have escaped a lot of people:
#1 - H-S models: This is actually a slight peeve of mine - to find a great guitar with a useless pickup config. Yes I like the glassy brilliance of a single in the neck for clean purties, but I also use the neck hum for distorted solos, and it must be a real full-size hum. I've only heard one stacked hummer that sounded like a real hummer, and cannot find another one that doesn't sound like a distorted Strat , and since it is easy enough to rewire your personal guitar's neck hummer to run in split mode only, or add a push pull knob that only splits the neck hum (throw the main toggle back to the bridge and the bridge is full-on, push the knob in for neck pickup full-on) This design suits everyone's needs, as you can wire it to your preference instead of cutting wood to your preference ($$$$)

#2 - Single-hum guitars - this certainly doesn't appeal to me at all. You want a car that only goes forward?? You'll be in a pickle when you want to go in reverse. Maybe if it had a piezo bridge for the all-important cleans.... but otherwise if you don't want to use your neck pickup, then by all means disengage it and run the bridge pickup straight to the knob.

#3 - Black hardwre on black/dark colors with dark binding - the None More Black theme. While this may be good to pander to the Gawths, you are wasting your time with that setup on a stage. If you go on a stage wearing all black playing a solid black guitar, just how do you expect anyone to admire your playing? May as well just have an unseen DJ. Call it vanity, but if I'm on stage playing my ass off I wanna be seen and admired and that means I want them to see every detail of a beautiful USA Jackson

#4 - Trying to get 10 people to agree to the same specs and be happy.
Good.
Luck.
As was stated, the JCF series was a nightmare of Dream Machines, secret alliances, and foot stomping.

#5 - 22 vs 24 - with a one-hum-wonder, the 24th fret doesn't crowd the neck pickup, and if you only use 20 frets when you play, then stop when you get to #20 like you normally would, but let everyone else who uses 24 go all the way up. You'll most likely pay the same price, so you may as well get all the frets.

#6 - "...Paint and hardware only - anything else (inlcuding not cutting a second pickup hole) is Custom Shop Pricing..." The End. Not Negotiable. Get Over It. (Unless this rule HAS been changed)

Yes I know you want it to be "Special" but you won't get a Custom Shop for USA Select pricing unless Jackson has changed their rules.

As for "streamlining" the production - sounds like CNC is coming in and affordable options are going out. Read Warmoth's spiel about Custom Bodies and it sounds exactly the same.
If streamlining by CNC means USA Selects for under $1000 street, or if the prices stay the same but the shop workers get paid the difference, fine by me, but if it just means lesser quality, same (or higher) prices, faster output, and higher management pay, you're going the wrong way.

Newc

If it's a USA Select based guitar, the minimum number of pieces has to be 10. If it's Custom Shop, they'll build 1 or 100. In order for me to be able to offer you a decent price on a Custom Shop guitar though, I'd like to see about 10 pieces. That way I can keep the price reasonable because you're buying them all at once.

We can still do this if there are less than 10 people interested, the price would just get bumped up a little bit.
