Tekky mate, I get ya now you said youre playing devil's advocate (can I be Charlize Theron big boy? ). Is modding a forum a hard job? I could do it maybe?... If it means it helps.... I dunno.... Whats entailed?

Re: Pickup forum?

I think a short tutorial page you'd have to read, and maybe take a small quiz on, before joining JCF would be helpful.

For example, Chuck had a point that there
is a Search function that, if used, would cut down on the # of new threads asking the same question we had a 3-page thread on last week. The correct spelling of Rhoads and the Ft. Worth neckplate = import thing, i.e, common misconceptions
about J/C guitars, could all be in an orientation page and could both serve new
members very well, and eliminate a lot of repetitious threads.

An orientation page with FAQs would be a great idea... and make it a sticky topic that can't be replied to.

I think we need a seperate lemon oil forum!

I suppose the "wives playing with sex toys while in the car"-type topics can still fit within the "Non J/C" subject forum.

Re: Pickup forum?

I think the orientation/FAQ thing would be a great idea toejam but there are different angles we need to look at this from.
Although I said earlier that the seperate pup category would be a good thing, there's another way of looking at it to. If we worry too much about repetitive threads and try to break each category down to its simpler components wouldn't we create a new problem by having too many categories therefore requiring to many moderators and a lot of extra work?? And if in each category we had a sticky topic covering all of the basics, etc etc etc, wouldn't that way of thinking eventually turn a forum into nothing more than an FAQ page requiring little interaction among members? Even when a certain topic gets to seem repetitive there's always different members responding with their opinions which, in my eyes, allows us to see that topic in different perspectives. Not only that, but those "repetitive" topics can sometimes bring up some good conversation and that's what were here for isn't it?
One way to clean up the forum if we really wanted to would be to kill a topic after the original question was answered, but then we're back to what I stated above.
I dunno, just another way to look at it.
