I'd say the 1st or 2nd on the left.

I'd agree with the 1st on left. But if you were going for that classic VH look you'd have to go chromed Floyd. I prefer the black, regardless.
      I did something similar:

My inclination is to go for chrome hardware, cream pickup and natural headstock but I wanted to look at a variety of options before committing to one.

          Gotta have the black headstock.

I understand why you're saying that but why?

I know the guitar in question started out with a black headstock (and small pre-pro gold logo AND black neck) but it also had a plain maple no logo headstock (Boogie Bodies neck as I recall). It's the same thing with the pickup. I started off black, then was switch to a clear Mighty Mite, then a reverse zebra and finally a double cream.

It all just comes down to which iteration one is most attached to. I have my preferences but I'm exploring all them.

Bottom right....chrome OFR creme hum & black headstock just looks "right" imo!!

That's why!!! Also, on that particular guitar, I think the black headstock flows better with the black body. I think the original neck was fully painted black.

The back of the neck was originally painted black but I won't be going there for this guitar.

I looked into my options and I can get the headstock painted black and get a new logo on it. The new logo can even be the old pre-pro style just like the original.

Will they do a black and yellow EVH design like that?

Who is "they"? I'm not having Charvel build this. I'm building it from Charvel parts.

I erroneously assumed that since you had the Charvel logo on the headstock (prolly done on the JCF's Generator?) that you were gonna use either a existing Charvel or get the CS to make you one. How are you gonna do the paint?

No, your assumption was correct - I'm using a Pro Mod neck, OFR and either a Charvel body I have or a new one. I've got someone lined up to do the paint. Even if the CS would do it I wouldn't want to pay their prices nor wait "forever" for them to make it.

I vote for 1 or 3 in the left column. Though, the black painted headstock looks nice, too.

Cool - I love that guitar.

I built one from scratch about 10 years ago. Here's what I ended up doing; maple neck, alder body, original floyd, Duncan custom & schaler m6.
