When Grover jackson sold off the charvel Name did he sell off the jackson name to at the end of 85 or did he stay owner til end of 89? Reason for asking is when the first japan charvels came out in 1986 under the logo it said " by charvel/jackson " Yea, these are the fort worth texas ones. Does anyone know this question?

Jackson & Charvel are not separate companies. As pro-fusion said, he sold the entire company, not parts of it or the Charvel name. The Model series Charvels were built by the same company. Grover set up the Japanese production himself.Hail yesterday

Like everyone else has said I thought he sold both companies at the same time to the same buyer. I do believe Jackson/Charvel was sold to FMIC in 2002. FMIC bought the company from AKAI after they had purchased it from Grover himself. Grover actually left the company in 1985.This is what I think of Gibson since 1993.I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED!

Thats interesting!! I thought Grover kept jackson until the end of 89. Thats when everything changed as far as I remember. When I google it It I get nothing. When you look up the serial number chart it tells you that jacksons 1001-1505 were san dimas bolt-ons and the rest were ontario built until 1990.

That sounds about right. I was told by dealers that grover was still there until the end of 89 and left the company. Now if He still owned jackson until 89 I don't know. I can't seem to find the answer on the internet so I thought I would ask here. I have owned several 89 jacksons and they were sweet but they all came with those liciense floyds. Seems that 87-89 came with liciense floyd and not original floyds. In 86 the bolt-on jacksons came with either kahlers or floyds. I noticed the difference from 87-89. It's hard to type this...I am blind in one eye. Oh, Hellraiser might remember me I used to be called proaxe on this board but for some reason I lost the name.

pro-fusion, Thats what I heard. I did some reading tonight despite my bad vision. Grover did sell the whole company in 85 and then the factory moved to Ontario, CA Xmas time. It was a staged move. To weather when he actually left the company is unknown so far. I did hear from the jackson dealer back in 89 that grover left or sold the company. After that everything changed and I never bought a new jackson again.

I believe your understanding is correct. The last jackson that I bought new was in feb of 89 and by dec 89 it was all over. Grover left the company and evrything changed. I got one of the last ones. I have emailed grover and asked him about this. Maybe he might get back to me.

grover still maintained partial ownership of jackson til 89 but spent most of his time from 84-89 in japan and korea setting up production and parts. I lost track of jackson after 89 so I don't know much about jacksons built in the 90s. I spend some time reading a very long story written by rob lane and Grover about the history of charvel and jackson. Grover was with the company til 89-90 or left the board for IMC in 90. I just noticed a change in the jacksons bolt-ons from 87-89. Alot of license floyds cheaper hardware. jacksons bolt-ons were doing good in 86. IMC got bought out by another company in 97, don't remember the name, and this company sold it to FMIC IN 2002. Either way the jackson and charvels are not the same like they were in the 80s
