• Help on Phil Collen archtops needed

Guys,
I'd appreciate any info you have on the orignal early 90's Phil Collen archtop guitars. What should I be looking for and how many were made? These are my questions so far:
Were they all PCS serial numbers?
Schaller or Original Floyd?
What pickups?
What case did they come with?
Binding over fret ends?
What sort of price do they fetch?
I have a line on one, and just want to check it out as best as I can!
Cheers
Ian

They were not all PCS numbers, the vast majority had a PC-number. I guess they made about 70-80 Archtops all in all, which make it a pretty rare piece...especially with a PCS-number. The Floyd is a Schaller, and the pickups are Jacksons own. They came in a custom case, which is extra thick to accomodate the arching of the body, and the binding is not over the fret-ends.

And regarding prices, I guess they can fetch between (rough estimate) $1500 and $2500 depending on serialnumber and condition. If you can find one, buy it. You won´t be disappointed...my PCS Archtop blows my Soloists out of the water.

I´m actually not too sure about how many were made and how much one will cost you, but I´m sure that Brooks will chime in and correct me if I´ve made any mistakes

I tried out a PC archtop one time and it was by far one of the best guitars I've ever laid hands on. Way better than any soloist I've played. The neck wasn't as wide as a soloists but still as thick which made it basically perfect to play.

Yeah, the Archtop-neck is the best I´ve ever played/owned. Period. The body is just soo comfortable, with the arching of the back and all...pure magic. It actually sounds killer with the stock Jackson humbucker, as well...I tried switching it out for some Duncans (JB, Screamin´ Demon, Custom), but it went right back in. The Archtops and that Jackson pickup are a perfect match, imho.

I know there are 2 custom shop PC archtops on the bay right now. Too expensive for me! I just want an old school white platinum one.

White ones seem hard to come by. Out of all the ones I have, most want the white ones. <shrug>

Details on the PC archtop can be fond on my page here:

And don't forget that in 1990 Jackson was making them in Japan too, as part of the Professional Series. They are nearly identical to the USA counterparts.

My Silver one (that I bought from Brooks ) has the Jackson licensed trem. It's an amazing guitar. The all-Maple construction gives the attack a lot of snap. I was thinking about maybe getting a custom one made of all-Mahogany, but I don't know if the Fender shop will even make them anymore... please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

The Archtops are available thru the Jackson customshop, but I think the Fender shop might have a hard time with it

Guys,
Thanks for that - I contacted Brooks, and then found the page on the archtops from his site! I have the Japanese model and now have a line on a USA for around $1500, which as I'm in the UK, seems like a pretty good deal. I'll let you know when I find out more, or buy it!

I paid about $1500 for my PCS, and I guess that´s a pretty fair price here in Europe. Go for it, man!
