Re: Hammet returns to Jackson

I agree, he isn't a gear ***** in that he tries to get endorsements from every company he plays (like many guitarists try to do). He plays what he likes. He has hundreds of guitars of all brands. Live he has always used his Jackson Rhoads Custom, even if its just for one song, its been there before the ESP's (since 1985) and is still up there today. Kirk plays Gibson's on stage alot as well. He has had Paul's up on stage since the Black album (but I never heard of him thinking of going to Gibson). If he ever left ESP it probably wouldn't make much difference as they don't get a whole lot of stage time these days. Of all his guitars that Rhoads V is the one that has been around the longest on stage and in the studio. In the 22 years of Metallica's life, that guitar has been around 18 of those years. If anyone should be signed, Kirk should atleast be. I do believe that most of these rumors are spun from the fact that younger fans see Metallica playing guitars that are not ESP's and speculate changes in endorsements not realizing that after the band had money, they never stuck to one brand of instruments.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">True, the circumstances were this: After years of saying that bands who had endorsements and made videos were sellouts, they decided to make the most $
possible by snagging the most lucrative endorsement deal they could, spinning the deal on the fact that ESPs would appear in Metallica's first-ever video. You could date the beginning of what we now
call Selloutica, or Burnoutica, or whatever your pet name for them is, to that event. Since then it's all about the Benjamins for them.

Re: Hammet returns to Jackson

I was just saying he'll play anything he likes, and he does collect a lot of guitars. He was featured a couple years back on the cover of GW with a Strat. He owns and has been photographed with a few Fender Strats, Les Pauls, Flying Vs, Anderson, Fernandes, Godin, Ibanez, ESP, some big-assed hollow body archtops, whatever. I'm sure he's getting some good money from his ESP endorsement deal, but who knows if he's leaving? It would be cool if he got a deal with Jackson, but whatever. Metallica are so far removed from what they started out as, that it's not even funny. They started their own trend in the early '80s, now all they do is follow the nu-metal and whatever other flavor-of-the-day trend pays. Remember when they swore they'd never write a ballad? As for St. Anger, it's not the worst album ever... but it's the worst sounding Metallica album ever! What the hell were they and Bob Rock thinking?!? The album is underproduced and sounds horrible, James' voice is screachy and whiny at times, and he doesn't come in on time with the first chorus of Frantic, not to mention the fact that he's screwed up the lyrics to that song live. I think he should start drinking again and come back to his senses! I'd rather listen to Limp Dickquick who I absolutely hate with a passion, especially Fred Durst!!! How the hell did we get on the subject of St. Wanker again anyway?

Good for Kirk... bad for ESP. Does this mean there will be no more KH2? Hmmm.

If Kork Helmet starts to endorse Jackson, we're gonna get all the teenaged Metallica fans who make the ESP board such a fun place to avoid!
