  • Trade a Charvel So Cal (MIJ) for a Jackson DK2 (MIJ) - worth it or not?

Hi, this is my first post here,

So I am looking for a 24 fret shred guitar in HSS configurations, and someone has offered me a trade of a nice-looking MIJ Jackson DK2 (in a good shape), for my MIJ Charvel So-Cal (which is my go-to metal guitar for the past 2 years).

We all know that both are different guitars, but are they on the same quality level?

Also, how does the MIJ DK2s compare to the USA-made Dinkys?

I've played the DK2 and i really do like it, I just want to hear more opinions/information from you guys...

    Thanks!

l wouldn't do a straight trade. Japan promods go for quite a bit more on the used market. There are a lot of completed listings for both on eBay, and I see plenty of DK2s in the $350-$450 range and most of the Japan promods look like they are selling for around $650-$750. DK2s are great, but they made a ton of them. It's more about supply & demand than a big difference in quality.

You'll regret unloading the So-Cal but you wont be disappointed with a DK2, so save up & buy one. There's plenty around so don't stress about missing out just yet. I'd recommend going for a later one, between 2006 & 2011, black hardware & real Duncans, just a slight improvement.

I got a 2009 DK2 and its better than the Charvel model 2 '88 model I let go of 23 years playing it, both MIJ.
The quality of my DK2 really is flawless. I usually play a '58 LP reissue and Fat neck Teles and other MIJ LPs. Thee Jackson thin necks are so smooth and fast. Perfect shredders!!

          +1

So true, just saw a nice black MIJ ProMod go for $800 and they always sell in the $500+ range.
If I was ever forced to sell off all of my guitars, the very last one to go would have to be my MIJ Promod!
