MF Hotbuys Back Section...what a joke!

Just got the new MF catalog today and in the last pages hotbuy section they have 3 Jacksons. The big one is the bolted steel WR1 for a low price of 1,900! And, they also feature the import skulls version of the KE3 and DK2 for get this...the same price they have always been at! I think they are showing the MAP prices and maybe the acutual sale price will be cheaper when you give them a ring a ling ding, but who knows? I personally hate this MAP deal...pretty bogus. Isn't this America we live in a free enterprise zone. Let the lowest price guy win all the business, this is what makes this land so friggin' awesome. Sorry, bad day at work, needed to... i was kinda thrown by that too... then go look at the ke2 and dk2 prices in the regular catalog. even with adding the finishes that the ones on the back page has, the back pages are still over priced.

Matt, It amazes me that some people on this board
do indeed buy from anywhere else, and I see it all the time.

Not that I have bought anything from you, because I was kind of already loaded up when I found this board (except for my wolfgang), but certainly when I do, it will be you or Kev.

Hey Shawn,
I am writing this because I am thinking you think that I buy from MF, when in fact I most certainly do not. I am pretty antiMF, and Guitar Center for that matter. I did however utilize/use them one time about 3 years ago. They were getting rid of the older USA Fender American Strats at under $600. I bought and later sold it to purchase a new PC3. For the most part, I think that they overcharge on gear and their customer service is rude and just plain lacking. Just thought I would clear that up. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
I would also go to either Matt, Matt, or Kevin to get a Jackson if I needed one. My wife just bought a DK2 from a seller in New York that she knows about. Her best friend lives in Binghamton and knew of a cool place.

BTB007 I can't speak for all the GC's but the one I work at is not like that at all. We care about our customers and will do what ever it takes (legally) to tend to thier needs or desires for gear. The ones by you may be different but my store is a different animal than the usual GC.
We hear alot of the same things you said about the Sam Ash by us though. They just dont care and dont really seem to have a clue about what they sell. They've even sent thier sales staff over to our store (one by one to pose as customers) and learn the gear because we do care and learn the gear.

I've talked to too damn many certifiable dumbasses at GC's all over the country to fall for the old 'ours isn't like that' routine! [img]graemlins/poke.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/images/icons/wink.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] Alright, seriously, there is no bigger crapshoot in the world than GC customer service. Some days I'd call a store and get a total moron that wasn't even aware that Jackson was a brand their store carried and I'd call the same exact store the next day and get a guy that actually knew what the hell he was talking about and seemed to, get this, LIKE GUITARS! [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

BTB007: MAP was instituted after MF blew their DK2-HRF load at $250 a pop. They were pulling in maybe $10-20 on each one, and that was at a price point about $45 BELOW what other stores COST was. When the smaller stores heard about that and threatened to bail, Jackson instituted a MAP to keep them from b!tching too much. Blame the mom and pop stores if you want to complain about MAP. I agree that Guitar Center fires all their good guys because there good, and they wont stand for that.
They only like dumb, uneducated idiots to follow orders even if it involves white lies.

I was #1 employee for Guitar Center Sherman Oaks California December 2002, and fired by a 22 year old know it all in March '03.
They dont care if your smart and know your ****.
I never fell below #4 in the monthy salesman rating's EVER!!!!
Also when I was working there a 1984 Jackson serial #0935 comes in. This was Ivory white , neck thru string thru with brass hardware,

I also agree that SAM ASH IS FULL OF ****.
More than GC beleive it or not.

Also when I was working there, a 1984 Jackson serial #0935 comes in. This was Ivory White, neck thru, string thru, with brass hardware. ****in awesome!!! This was later resold the original customer who sold it to our store in the first place. We bought it for $949.00 and put it up for $1699.00. I think he got the guitar back for $1499.00. It now totally bugs me I didnt even take a photo of it, but it exists, and I spoke to Mike at Jackson and he said he remembers making a couple RR's with thre Harpoon headtsock. killer....
Still I can get almost cost on anything I need.

i think, like anything, it depends on where you go. there's decent people to be found, for sure, but those kinda stores seem to get rid of em fast.

no offense gil, but i preferred the sam ash to the gc you're at now. although you and tim are good knowledgable guys for sure, and i've bought guitars from both places. dan thompkins at sam ash is a great guy, and their repairman tully is a roberto venn grad that was always super cool to me.

however....the gc nearest me down here scares the hell out of me... i've asked 3 different guys if they had any hard cases that would fit a firebird. each time i'd ask, i'd get "what's a firebird?"

...and i was in the guitar dept! [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

when i have to go to gc, i just put my head down and run for what i need... [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] it sucks that there's really no mom n pop indie guitar stores in my area.
