  • Is there anyway to identify is a Jackson guitar is a pro series?

I've been wondering if my guitar is a pro series or not, it has one humbucker for the bridge and then two single coils witha 5 way switch, is there anyway to identify if it is a pro series?

A pic would be the easiest way. Serial numbers won't determine the model or series. You first need to load your pics on a photo sharing site such as photobucket, tinypic etc. and then copy the link here.

    What's the serial?
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

And then, of course, the always famous question (which leads to debates)...

What 'pro series' are you talking about?

If you're referring to the original (and the only significant) Professional Series from 1990 to about 1994, then you can actually use the serial number to tell. For neck through guitars it will be the letter, "J" and then six digits. For bolt on guitars, it will be a 6 digit number. That will usually place the guitar as one of the original Jackson Professional Series. But you do need pictures and a better description. Ebony fingerboards are usually an easy way to tell, the later versions went to rosewood. Jackson JT-590 Schaller trems were usually on the earlier versions, later they began using different, lesser trems. Active Jackson pickups were usually on the originals, later they went to other pickups. That's not a guaranteed way to tell, but it usually works. Pics and description will be needed to be sure.

Ummm, Joe, Jackson NEVER made active pickups. Only passive that could be used with some of their active electronics modules. Where have you been?

I just assumed if there was a 'Professional' logo he'd know it was a Pro series.

But, yeah, the word 'Pro' could mean the 1990's PROs or Professionals, or, the entirely different 2000- today Pro models.
