  • Did a ton of Searching. Cannot figure out model of Randy Rhodes.

Hi folks, i'm new here so sorry if anythings wrong. I bought a randy rhodes, a few months ago. Saw it at goodwill for I believe $220, it had been heavily customized. 2 passive emg humbuckers were added, new paint and flames were added too. It has shark fin inlays, I believe rosewood neck, liscence floyd rose, no markings on neck. 2 knobs. Serial Number: NHJ1017597

I would appreciate so much if you could figure out what the model it. Thanks!

Without a pic I can only say it sounds like a JS32 Rhoads. The serial indicates 2010 made in India.

    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Is that a reverse headstock and binding on the neck?

I am going to say "parts-Jackson". Looks like a DXMG neck attached to a JS32 (or equivalent) body. IF I am right that means somebody stuck a 24 fret neck on a 22 fret body. It isn't going to intonate correctly. Don't know without really seeing the whole guitar in one shot - and even then I can only speculate...
          GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

          and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Yeah, seeing the binding/reverse hs makes me think neck swap, but the JS32 (as I posted above) is 24 frets.
I'd have to check to be sure, but I think those Indian made JS Rhoads with a Floyd were all 24 frets.

Yeah thanks for the help I think it is a swapped neck because it was a bit challenging to stay in tune before I worked on the intonation, set it up, tried some new strings and some tuning methods. Doesn't stay in tune great, but it sounds amazing.

If the neck came from a Japanese model, such as the DXMG, it should have the model and/or date stamps printed on the neck heel. You'd need to remove the neck to check, obviously.
Indian made models never had any useful info stamped, so the body (neck pocket) will probably only have random numbers/letters.

Cool - I don't know those models AT ALL! If that's the case then the "hassles" I mentioned should be minimal with a good set-up.
