  • Jackson Adrian Smith SDX vs Dave Murray Strat HHH

    Hello everyone

I'm thinking about buying a new guitar and I hesitate between Jackson Adrian Smith SDX (http://www.jacksonguitars.com/guita...drian-smith-sdx-maple-fingerboard-snow-white/) and Dave Murray Stratocaster HHH (http://intl.fender.com/es-ES/series...atocaster-maple-fingerboard-2-color-sunburst/). Does anyone have experience with them? Could anyone advise me?

    Thanks and regards.

But with what intent did you post this?

Highlight the rest of his post. I don't know why he chose to write in black font.

Well, the Fender has less things against it in my opinion. I would personally prefer it's alder body against the basswood one of the Jackson strat. It also has nicer pickups. But if I was looking for a strat, I'd rather get a Charvel SoCal. 1) Alder body, like the Fender. 2) classic Jackson style speed neck. 3) Duncan humbuckers.

Is the SDX still made in Indonesia? I know initially they were made in India, but I thought I saw one recently with an Indonesian sticker. I wouldn't pay the price of an SDX if I could stretch to the Fender, unless the SDX is Indonesian. They really need to start making an SDX in Mexico imho.

Sunbane's suggestion of getting a Charvel SoCal is good, but buying a new one is the most expensive option, maybe picking up a used Japanese build SoCal would be a good idea.

I personally find Fender Strats ugly, apart from the one Dave used to play (the black one with HSH config). SO I'd go for the SDX.

Jackson SDX. When Floyd Rose Special needs to be replaced, buy a Schaller Lockmeister.

I had the Dave Murray and I have a USA Adrian Smith (I also have a USA Dave Murray). IMO that's where the comparison is. The MIM Dave is not a budget guitar at all. It is top notch and compares favorably with the USA models in all details except the 1000 series Floyd which suffers from a loose bar and crummy fine tuners. Other than that it was a great guitar. I would buy one again no problem.

I haven't liked the feel of the import Adrian's I've tried - and keep in mind I just bought an X series soloist that I think is pretty damn good - so I don't rule out imports at all.

I got to play an SDX on Fri, a mate just bought one and was having trouble tuning it so brought it round (one of the Floyd springs had slipped off it's mounting in shipping). I was really surprised how good it was as I had my USA Charvel out at the time and we did an A/B comparison through my Engl, it sounded great and the Floyd actually felt better than the one on my USA.

I found the floyd on the SDX to 'give' a little
And I mean that in the metal baseplate being able to bend
Something I never encountered in my USAs and Imports

My SDX is made in India, other than the E1 being close to the edge of the board, it's an amazing axe. A go to guitar for me, awesome neck, floyd works just fine & it sounds pretty good.

I can't do a comparison with the Dave or a MIA model so I couldn't say but it's a great git all the same.
