Facebook is great for the instant fix, but it sucks for the 'conversation' and for any kind of information archive. But it seems to be more and more the way things are going - forums die if people don't post in them, and 15 years or more into the JCF, I'm as guilty as any in terms of not posting. I got a Warren D Charvel a couple of days ago, and it's only now that I've considered posting it here.
As Mike said, it doesn't help that the owner of the JCF doesn't contribute or seem to give a shit, and frankly, when the site has been down for periods of time, I've not missed it and it's just confirmed how little interest 'the management' have in the place..
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get
Ditto to all of the above.
I've been here going on 12+ years and love the knowledge and friendships I've made here.
Hate to see this place go.
I've though of offering to take over hosting several times. Hell I have more than enough capacity for this site on my test server.
I simply don't have free time lately for much of anything, let alone managing a board. I'd have to hand day to day crap off to someone else if it were to happen.
Agree with a lot of what's already been said here, also use Facebook and belong to two guitar groups. I login most everyday and check out the "What's New" tab to keep up.
Vass, that's a great idea! I wish it had been implemented! and after one year of Platinum I didn't re-new.
You guys are an encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to Jackson Guitars and a few others as well.
It is always very sad when an old forum with a community formed around it an an incredible wealth of information dies. JCF is not dead yet though! I don't know how the owner runs this but remember there are costs to this too, this is the reason why inactive forums eventually go offline. Yes, facebook and even reddit are by design less suited to deep discussions. But what I think is happening is that old school forums, posting boards like this, they took a huge hit in recent years but those of them with a dedicated community do survive. There are people looking for more quality discussions out there than the newer platforms can provide, as long as the forum is more than a "look at my gear" fansite. JCF surely has this depth.
Ideally the board could use an update and some occasional promotion in relevant communities, or people could get together and gather information from the forum to be posted in wiki form and have a common portal for both.
Nobody running this board gives a shit. And hasn't. For a long, long time.
It wouldn't take much to make this place mobile friendly either.
Site owners aren't responsible for the users providing the content, we can argue about this not being mobile friendly
but no one needs to be kept up to date about what's happening in Jackson world 24/7 (unlike FB and Twatter)
If this place is dying, it's because of a lack/loss of interest in Jackson guitars, nobody is coming here for Amp tech, Patches, Paint info, there are bigger/better sites for that
"There's nothing taking away from the pure masculinity I possess"
Screw FB, screw smartphones, the last thing this forum needs is a plethora of 2-3 word responses to have to sift through.

I much prefer forums over Facebook. So much so that I deleted my Facebook account five years ago. It surprises me that the gun forums stay so active, but most other types of forums have died at the hands of Twitter, Facebook and the like. I'm not attached to a cell phone, so I still do my posting from a PC, and I'm sure that's part of what's kept me clinging on.
I've been here a while, and I always like seeing posts by you guys. There are some on here who are keeping the dream alive.
I stopped using FB at least 8 years ago. I guess I need to delete my account, but I haven't cared enough even to do that!
I'm for forums all the way...
This place is sadly diminished compared to years ago. The Seymour Duncan forum is thriving and has a wide range of discussions, but the true extreme pickup nerds over there are overly obsessed with swapping magnets LOL. If there had been an internets in 1990, a Jackson Charvel forum would have been MASSIVE!

true about the content, and nobody in the nearly 20 years I've been a member has anyone expected the site owner to provide entertainment/content for the masses.
But they are responsible for maintenance and functionality. And to provide value for money. I was a platinum contributor for years, not because I wanted or needed access to the Classifieds, but because as a long standing member, I wanted to pitch in to a community that I felt a part of. I actually rarely used the Classifieds anyway. But there is little evidence that our financial contributions were benefiting the forum. I haven't renewed in the last 2 years.
If the site is a PITA to use, or the search function doesn't work, or I have to login every time I arrive and then have to click through the forum because the passthrough from the login page errors every time, then traffic diminishes, less people contribute, the content-producers (ie. forum members) stop visiting, casual visitors feel less like joining up and contributing themselves. Hence the forum dying on the vine
I use to spend more time on here from the early days until not long ago, but it doesn`t feel the same. It`s like that on a lot of boards now. It was fun selling and trading guitars and gear for really good prices as well. We all use to give Bro deals to each other and now the prices are so high on things as well. I still come on almost everyday but most a ton of the regulars are gone now as well. I remember when you couldn`t blink your eyes and you got answers to qustions or the classifides blew up with new ads and cool stuff. The classifides on here use to be the best!! I use to buy, sell and trade weekly, sometimes daily.
Amen! I got my USA SL1 from a member here. Great price and the guitar's immaculate.
