  • Question about the routing on Charvel San Dimas bodies.

    Hey guys,

I figured this forum would be the best place to ask this. I want to know what size/radius is used on the routing of the outside edges of the normal San Dimas/pro mod body? The reason I'm asking is because I'm ordering a custom Charvel Dinky body from Musikraft, which looks pretty much like a slimmer San Dimas body, and I believe that the edges of those bodies use a sharper routing bit, giving it a sharper, less rounded edge. I wanted to get them to customize mine a bit more and route the edges the same size as a San Dimas, because I like that more rounded-off look. I was wondering if anyone knew the size? Thanks.

Yeah, we know a lot of shit, but I don't know what router bit was used for the edge of the bodies...

I'll take a stab here, but it will be mostly conjecture, so take it with a grain of salt.

My two Pro-Mod So-Cal bodies feel like Strat bodies. Musikraft makes both Strat and Dinky bodies. Why not just instruct Musikraft to round off their Dinky body by replicating the rounded edges of their Strat body? Even if it's not the precise radius, it's still probably close enough that 99% of people couldn't tell the difference and aren't going to be whipping out some sort of radius gauge from their pocket to scrutinize your body edges in that much detail.

I'm not sure this will turn out the way you think. Basically, you'll just end up with a slightly-smaller Strat body.

I used to have a Jackson Dinky/Strat which had cut down outer body dimensions like a Dinky but rounded edges like a Strat, which is sort of what you are describing. Here are some pics that you can refer to if desired:

EDIT: And yes, it really just looks like a Strat. It was solid maple so I think it was done to weight relieve it. I've never seen another one like it.

Actually, that's what I'm going for. I already have a San Dimas. I love it, but I'm trying to go for a lighter body that still has the look I want. It'll be novel I think.
