  • Question about used RR1's availability and other questions

    Hey there,

So... Although I could afford (probably) to buy a custom select soon I am thinking I'd rather take a look at the used market first. Since I'm avoiding looking until my $ is in my hands (Because I'd hate to see the perfect guitar then it be gone when I'm able to buy it) I wanted to get an idea what the used market looks like right now for Jacksons? Specifically RR1's and WR1's, I don't honestly remember seeing too many warriors when I was last on the hunt. Have either of these or even US Kellys been showing up much on the used market? What kind of price ranges? I know on MF they are going for 2900 new (Which seems a little bit more then high honestly) Thought I'd ask here as I know there's always eyes here on used Jacksons.

This will be months from now So please dont' DM me with guitars you want to sell, this is not an ad and I will not respond

Next question - Since I have never owned or played a Warrior, would it be a good idea to buy one of the cheapy ones just to see how well it sits on me (not so much how it plays, just how it carries) before actually spending big bucks on the real US model? Do they compare physically and weight wise decently enough? (Again this isn't about if the import is any good, or wood quality, just how it carries)

I may be over thinking this, but this will be my first US guitar since I had my Carvin built almost ten years ago now, so...
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I cannot answer about the US market, it's a bit different reality compared to Europe (with also different currency), but for the second question, the Warrior is absolutely the better balanced between all of Jackson pointy/unconventional shapes, both if you play it standing (due to the front attachment for the strap, which is in the upper horn rather than in the back of the neck/center of the instrument in other models), and also if you play by sitting, thanks to the shape and the big lower horn.

The playability in the upper frets is better than a Kelly, the space between the neck and the lower horn is larger.
I own the first model of Warrior (which is a short scale), but the principles are the same.

The Rhoads -even if it's the most iconic model for Jackson lovers- it's not for me, too unbalanced, I never felt completely comfortable (I had a RR1).

Actually my question was about the US Warrior vs. the import warrior. I am debating buying a cheapy warrior to see if i like how it sits while playing. My main question on that is how exact is the body on the neck through imports to the US model (as far as weight and headstock diving) so I get a feel for it before I go out and spend 4000 dollars on a USA model

No, I would not buy any new import Warrior. I suggest you demo one in a store, purely to establish whether you like the body shape and neck profile. If you do, then go order your USA CS. Don't waste any money on a turd.

Of all Warriors I've played, none of them neck dive. They are all perfectly balanced.

Wanna find a used USA Warrior? Good luck with that one. They are out there, but you have to be quick and pay more than what you would have a decade ago.

You mentioned Rhoads, Kelly and Warrior, wondering also how you could feel with a Warrior (that you had never tried).
I gave you an idea in broad terms about the differences in playability and balancing.
Buying a cheapy Warrior only to see how it sits? Why?
Go in stores and try all the ones you find, as Wilkinsi said.
Then it will depend on you how much you want to spend.

I wouldn't buy any of the newer import guitars... their price is too high. I'd use that money as a deposit on a Custom Select.

Warrior definitely hangs from a strap differently, it may be too low if you're used to propping the headstock up high. Sitting it's probably one of the most comfortable shapes ever designed.

Well, problem is there's nowhere around here that carries Jackson, even the guitar center in Modesto is pretty sparse when it comes to the Jackson brand. That's why the cheapy.

Right now it's a tie between it and a Kelly. Not sure I need another Rhoads right now. After seeing some of the custom Kelly's that people have gotten lately. Damn it. GAS GAS GAS GAS.

Truthfully if I thought I'd still be alive when it was finally finished I'd order a Double Rhoads, but I don't think I have 20 years left

You could always buy a cheap one off MF or Guitar Center online. Return it at GC without having to pay shipping. It's a gamble but a convenient return policy.

That Kelly is sweet. Talk to Matt, start working on spec's.

That's a great idea! I'd do this if I was trying to decide if the shape fits me but I already know that answer. I love it! Iv'e been on the hunt for awhile now and if I had ordered a CS select from the start, id probably have it by now! If you find anything used you'll pay out the a55 for it. Once you decide if it's for you, order a CS select. Last one I ordered took 6 months. might as well get what you want.

Works with expensive items too. If you see a USA Jackson (or some other expensive item), order it and if you don't like it you don't have to deal with return shipping. That's really the only thing really good about MF/GC... as long as you have a local GC, there is really very little risk if you end up not liking something.
