Worth the trade ?

I am Jess been playing for 23 yrs on and off and never have had a Charvel. Have had mainly ESP. Also have owned Fender, BC Rich, Schecter. and a few other I can think of.

I currently have the chance to trade my schecter blackjack atx c-1 with Seymour Duncan Blackouts Set neck ect.. for a Charvel So Cal Japan made JC10 Serial(2010 I believe is what that means) With the Charvel hard case. its the red one. I am going to check out the guitar tomorrow.

I have no clue of the Value of the guitar and thinking of trading just to trade since I got the schecter in trade and I do love it but want to try some thing different, But want to be sure the value is fair.

What is the Value of this Charvel ? it is in Mint condition.

Is that US dollars? If so IMO its overpriced. Also that fretboard doesnt look like in mint condition.

I feel like I can contribute. I own both a high-end, set-neck Korean Schecter C-1, along with a Japanese Charvel So-Cal (both are pictured above). Very much like you, I also got my C-1 in a trade, and I got my So-Cal with original SKB hardcase (same as the one pictured in your Craigslist ad) for nearly the same price ($660) except in Canadian dollars. And very much like the So-Cal you're considering, mine also has a big brass sustain block, added aftermarket by a previous owner.

Both are flawless and faultless guitars. Import Schecters are built by World Musical Instrument Co. Ltd. in South Korea. They continue to produce great guitars for multiple brands. The Japanese Charvels were built by Chushin Gakki, who made all Japanese Jacksons and Charvels from 1986-2011. They are no more. Owning a Japanese Jackson/Charvel now is basically owning something "legendary" that will never be made again.

Here is where the subjective part comes in. I have massive chemistry with the C-1 and play it often. Despite me feeling most comfortable playing Jackson and Charvel necks, the So-Cal is one of my least-touched guitars, even though it is identical in build quality and specification to my American So-Cal which I do play semi-regularly. And I have no idea why this So-Cal gets ignored. I keep telling myself I really should give it a chance.

The following paragraphs hopefully present you with enough pricing discussion so you can draw your own conclusions about the value of the So-Cal in question.

According to one UK review of a 2011 Japanese So-Cal (https://www.facebook.com/notes/charv...0107177927880/), the list price was £742 and all Japanese Pro-Mods were accompanied by SKB hardshell cases. Because I cannot find any price lists for Japanese Charvel Pro-Mods from 2010-2011, I had to convert £742 to US Dollars. It's USD$1029.47 in 2017 dollars, and USD$959.02 at the 2011 rate.

For comparison, the American Production Models were USD$999-1099 from 2008-2009 (https://www.jcfonline.com/threads/14...ls-catalog-ads). These guitars came with a gig bag.

With the hard shell case, I would say $650 is fair and in the ball park for a used So Cal. If you look around, you might be able to find one a little cheaper but again, this is in the general range. And I agree with Ed, the fretboard does not look mint. It's been played.

Given the resale value of Schecter (in my local areas), I would be all over that Charvel.
I mean, plus, I'd be getting rid of a Schecter and replacing it with a MF'n CHARVEL !!!

I'd really hate to say trade a WMI Korean build for a MIM Charvel. The fretwork is a bit better, the overall build quality and construction is a bit better. Value wise, it's pretty much a wash, IMO.

If you're meeting up with someone local, try the guitar out before committing.
