Hi guys, this looks like a cool forum. I just got a Rhodes neck thru so started doing research on these and got interested in these guitars. I bought it cheap online used on tequila fueled lark. After buying it I started to do more research, it's really confusing all the different import models. I'm pretty sure it's an RRXT India model SN 1101013 (please correct me if I'm wrong). Neck thru, 22 fret, string thru with metal pick guard. Someone swapped out the pickups with Jackson CVR2 (can tell they were soldered in not stock), presuming it had the Duncan Designed in it originally.
I was a bit disappointed learning it was made in India (I think) figuring it would be Indonesia or (hopefully) Korea or Japan. I'm just learning about these import guitars and it seems like they moved production around a lot. I've got an Indonesian Schecter neck thru five string bass and a Korean neck thru BC Rich plus a Japan '87 Charvel Model 5 which are decent quality, but never owned an Indian made guitar nor have I been impressed at the experiences I've had dealing with that country in the past (previous employer outsourced to India and that was a disaster, so I'm a little biased).
I received the RRXT and was pleasantly surprised at the guitar. It's really light (presuming due to the basswood), which gives it a cheap toy feeling, plus you can tell the fit on the inlays aren't perfect and some of the hardware may not be super quality, e.g. tuners and nut. However, this guitar really plays great. I'm impressed at the action and neck. This plays as well as some of my more expensive USA guitars. Even the CVR2 pickups don't sound too bad (will be replacing the bridge with an EMG 81 this week). I polished up the frets, cleaned the fretboard, re-stringed and and cranked it up! Really fun to play.
I grew up with 80s thrash and always liked the Rhodes guitar (had a Kramer Rhodes style back then, cheapo plywood body!). I think my next purchase will be a used USA RR1. I've been keeping my eye out.
