  • Is this Adrian Smith a fake??

    Hey guys

I bought a second hand Adrian Smith a few days ago and something just seemed off with it so i did some research online and found the same guitar at this store :-

Huge selection of Guitars, Amplifiers, Bass, Acoustic, Ukuleles, Pro audio, Keyboards/Synthesizers, Recording equipment, Drums, Percussion, PA Systems, Instrument accessories & much more!

Now, I have owned one of these guitars before and from what i remember and from what i have seen online they always have a skunk stripe neck and pearloid dot markers. Also i have only seen them in white body with black/white pickguard and cream body with white pickguard but as you can see the one in the link has a cream pickguard (as does the one i bought).

Another thing i noticed was there is a small piece of wood missing on the headstock (where the truss was routed) above the middle locking nut as seen in this pic :-

Shop musical instruments, equipment, accessories and a lifestyle selection at Dawsons. Providing an inspiring range of products for all musicians.

Lastly on the one i bought when i removed the plate on the back the body was just bare unfinished wood which looks really off to me as they are normally matt white and the trem earth wire is drilled through the side of the cavity rather than under the springs.

Sorry for the long winded post im just a bit concerned that i have bought a fake so any help would be most appreciated.

    Cheers

    Andy

The guitar in the ad is legit.
Jackson stopped putting the skunk stripe on the SDX about a year or two ago.
I picked up a 2017 and no stripe. It's legit from a a reputable dealer.
The older ones have narrow 12th fret dots like the Charvel Pro Mods. Newer ones are slightly wider and coincides with the lack of a skunk stripe.

thanks for the info about the skink stripe.

my main worries now is the lack of abalone fretboard markers and the bare wood behind the strings plate

      Cheers

I Bought my SDX from Germany and it also had unpainted tremolo cover plate routing. It has also rosewood fretboard and I think those markers are pearloid.

Pickguard on that picture looks too yellow on the top but its sides look white. Does it still have protective film on it?
