Thoraby, I respect almost all you have to say in your posts, but this is not good advice. String-thru's definitly have their place and some of us really dig them. I don't need a floyd on every guitar I own, and I personally love the look.

Why get a string-thru when you can have a FLOYD?

Oh relax, Michael didn't mean the USA Select Jacksons are low end versions of the Custom Shop! Come on, you guys are in need of a labotomy and some tights. It's a FACT, the USA production models are made without fancy options, they are "low end" budget versions where only the options are extremely limited to a few possibilities. With a full blown Custom you get anything you desire, any woods, and hardware, any color, etc. But the limited options of the Selects do not mean lower quality or lesser attention. Same hardware, same wood selection, same craftsmen, but the cosmetics are limited. Perfect for those who don't so much care for a true Custom. Sheesh.

But still it's a little bad having to go Custom just for the bridge, everything else is EXACTLY a KE2

Why are you retuning one guitar to a different tuning? If you play in E, Eb, and D, get one for each tuning and swap them around every 3 months or so. No one said you HAD to buy NEW - get a used one in good shape off Ebay.
If you absolutely HAVE to have a brand new one, that's your trip, but honestly I see no sense in it - the used ones are just as great.

A Floyd without the bar has the same tonal properties as a tunamatic/stringthrough/stopbar/v-plate. If you don't want the "hassle" (whatever) of locking/unlocking the nut - don't put the locks on it. If you're not using the trem, you don't need the nut locks - it's just that simple.

And these things should be addressed to Jackson, not Fender, unless you want a Stratocaster model with a stringthrough/TOM, in which case you should post that on the FDP, since that's the Fender board.

Because i don't like having it locked down at the nut and screwing unscrewing everything when i tune to E Flat and it looks annoying/ugly (on the guitar i have in mind)
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Amen to that, its not just about blocking it if you dont want it.
Cheers

I have nothing against used guitars but there are very few (and overpriced) good ones in sweden
If i buy used from overseas, it would be from here only.

Re: FENDER: Make String Thru and option already

You're right, the USA Select Series guitars represent affordable versions of our* most popular Custom Guitars. They are not a step down - the only difference is predetermined specs: that's it! At some point in the past, Tim Wilson and the marketing department created this series for the obvious reasons. When I designed the KV2T it was not only to replace a gap in the line created by the Y2KV, but to also answer the demands of customers that emailed/called/wrote us asking for more string-thru models in traditional JACKSON shapes. There has been an obvious shift in interest away from Floyd equipped guitar; however, the demand is still there. I have a few dealers that sell an incredible amount of Custom guitars, and I always check with them for feedback and "the word on the street."

By the way, you should buy at least 2 guitars for every tuning you use (one for back-up). That's what I do. Of course, I only use one tuning.... But yeah, it's a drag trying to learn songs in different tunings when you've got a Floyd - drop D, Eb, etc.

Later!

* = "Our" can be read as "the Fender people" or "Jackson guys" -> I'm comfortable enough with the reality of the situation to see beyond the subtle dissing.

... Grover Fender and Leo Jackson, they were great guys.

I need to keep a record of all the threads I post in. Yeah, they're a low-end custom shop. It's the same materials and workmanship, you just don't get the choice.

You're noy paying more money to get a bridge put on a guitar. You're paying LESS money for a guitar that has set specs that can't be deviated from. The custom shop is Jackson's bread and butter, always has been and always will be. The words "USA Jackson" are practically synonymous with "Custom Shop". If you want a guitar done to your specs, then buy a custom. Otherwise, you're SOL.

I still can't understand why this is even an issue. Nobody b!tches at ESP or Ibanez or G&L or ANYONE ELSE about how THEY don't offer custom options on production guitars.
