The fact that the baseplate has a hole or the threads stripped leads me to believe that the baseplate is infact a jt-590. On those older schallers it is very rare that the threads are NOT stripped. But of course pictures are worth more than words.

The jt500, which looks exactly like the 590, was the cheap model that gave everyone problems. But it wasn't made by Schaller

OK that clears it up. You have neither an SL1 nor a Soloist Custom.
