• RR3: opinions?

i'm thinking about getting an RR3. mainly because i love the shape, low action, and floyd trem. should i worry about quality since it's not USA made? i'm having trouble trying to justify spending 3x the amount of the RR3 on a USA model. opinions, anyone?

The RR3 is an excellent guitar. It's the best guitar i've owned. But, make sure the trem is perfect. Me and a few other people on this forum have had trouble with these trems. But it seems as though only a handful of these trems are faulty. Some people have had these trems for a long time and haven't had a problem with it. The sustain on my RR3 is great and has a huge sound. So go for it

      Re: RR3: opinions?

I am spoiled on the neck-thru heel of the more "traditional" RR's to where playing an RR3 feels odd to me. Call it 15+ years of playing neck-thru RR's.

I have one, and besides the neck joint, I do like it. It's made more like a typical RR with things like jack location than a lot of previous bolt-on imports. It sucks that it doesn't get binding because that's the last thing I'd like for it. The pick-ups are kinda on the "suck" side, but I almost never leave in factory-stock pick-ups in imports anyway.

I have a USA RR2, which was the short-lived USA bolt-on Rhoads model. It has the JT580LP trem on it as well. I've had no problems with the trem, and the guitar plays and sounds just as good as any other Jackson I own. Other than an ebony fretboard and Armstrong pickups, I imagine that it isn't really very different from an RR3.
