Re: Stupid Floyd Pro

The angle is VERY minor detail. IT's like at a 3 degree angle.

Im just sick of my half assedness. Im getting in over my head (as I have done on other projects and purchases)

Ive owned 9 guitars in the last 2 and a half years and taken losses of over 1,200$

Im looking for my dream guitar, and am slowly realising that I will have to pay TOP dollar to get what I want.

Carvin was my best option, but the buggers wont make a 25.5 inch scale neckthru, and thats what I want!

I'm sorry to say this gemini but why fix something that isn't broke? Just because something has "pro" in its name doesnt mean it is better the floyd rose original comes stock on the sl1 because it is the best trem available for the top of the line model.

I don't know, Jeff.... I see your point, but if you spend $3,000 on your dream guitar and you still don't like THAT, what then? They ain't gonna make you another for free if you don't like it.
I think your expectations would be so high while waiting for the guitar to be built, that you would inevitably be disappointed by the result compared to the buildup.

I would go play a BUNCH of guitars and find one you love firsthand. If a guitar has mojo for you, you don't necessarily
have to mod IT to YOU - mod yourself to IT. I've never played a Floyd Rose Pro,
but most OFR users don't like 'em for some reason. You probably devalued the Soloist by $100 - $150 just by enlarging
the route, because it'll look wrong if another owner wants to go back with an OFR. As I said, adapting to the OFR isn't that hard, and actually helps
your technique TO adapt.
Ron is the MAN!!!!

Re: Stupid Floyd Pro

i had a feeling about this after i sent the pup to you, in my original thread i did mention that this pup came out of a esp kamakazi and was a direct mount pup, but to cure this you just need to get 2 nuts that are the proper size for the screws and glue or attach them somehow to the bottom of the pup so the screws have something to grab on to.....if you don't want to go through all that i will buy it back from you...let me know, i want you to be happy
p.s. i already installed the jb or i would trade you back
thanks

Re: Stupid Floyd Pro

Lex, you couldnt tell the route was changed, it was ~1mm on one side of the trem route.

Yah, I dont know, I always buy guitars, expect so much and then am disappointed.

Im gonna go back to a Wolfgang I think, or Axis. I love the neck, I hate the big heels and only 22 frets, but that isnt too bad. I may say to hell with a trem for the time being, just for simplicities sake.

I need to PLAY guitar, practice, become better. Ive wasted two years buying/selling/GASSING as opposed to sitting down and doing some of the thigns I need to take care of.

I start a new job in January~March. Ill make decent money so Ill be able to keep guitars, and not have to buy/sell to afford my GAS.

Ultimately id like a Wolfgang Custom shop, and a Jackson Custom shop, kind of like a "best of both worlds" type deal.

I was gonna do up a Warmoth, but I then decided I dont have the tools or skill to make it a player! Plus why waste ~700$ on something that will devalue.

So for now Ill pick up a decent wolf/axis until I can afford the true custom jobs I want.

But I thank you for the help and suggestions, many people have been helpful (especially you lex in various pm's and such)

But yah, it's been one of those days where I just couldnt put **** together in my mind and im ready to start fresh with a lot less hassle!

Its a damn shame, I had refin plans and all that for this guitar, but not no more. I dont have the time, money, no how to turn it into the axe I invisioned!

Re: Stupid Floyd Pro

You sound like you know what you want, at least for the moment but if you lost that much money in the past year dicking around with guitars then that's not good either.

We all want our dream guitar adn that will happen someday, but until you got the money to get it build or do it right then just practice practice practice....

When I first got serious about playing guitar again I wanted to have good gear to play with that wouldnt' crap out on me...I ended up wasting time and money cause reading these boards and harmony-central just end up getting you buying mroe stuff you dont' need and that wont' make you a better player. I dont' need a $4000 amp or $2000 guitar if I can't play good on a $500 guitar to start with.

Once I realized that, I play mostly on a $200 guitar now and play better than I ever have...I'll get my dream guitar someday but I want to be a better player NOW so when I get that dream guitar it won't feel like a waste.

Re: Stupid Floyd Pro

Jeff. I realize you are super frustrated by this whole thing, but you are overcomplicating everything. You have to ask yourself what you really want. Do you want a guitar that plays great and is comfortable for you, or do you want a guitar that looks great and costs a fortune? I am assuming you want the whole deal, but sometimes that's really hard to find unless you have a ton of money in your wallet to throw around. I honestly can't remember how many guitars I have owned over the years, but I've ended up with 3 that I can't live without. You wouldn't believe me if I told you what they were. However, I could sell my soloist tomorrow and never miss it.

Instead of spending money, I think you need to spend some time in pawn shops and guitar stores trying some stuff out. You may find that the right guitar for you is a beat up NJ series BC Rich Bich, or who knows what. My point is, it took me a long, long time to figure out what I really wanted.

What happens if you go out and spend a bunch of cash on a brand new Wolfgang, and then decide in two months that there's something you don't like about it? What do you do then? Pay someone to mod it, and find out that it's still not right?

I guess what I'm trying to say here is make sure you like the guitar 100% before you buy!!!

Re: Stupid Floyd Pro

How does playing a Floyd Pro affect your pushing down on the bridge any less than an Original Floyd?!? Seems like you need to work on your technique and not be so heavy-handed.

I don't own a Charvette, but if it works... so be it. One of my faves is a mutt Kramer Baretta, so I can't throw any stones.

Jeff, I'm surprised that the 25" scale of the Carvin threw you off that much. I love the guitar, and all my other guitars are 25.5". Maybe I'm a spazz, but I don't really notice the difference that much, and all my guitars are strung with 10s, so that is not different.

P.S. Still waiting for a response from you on my last emails re: the Carvin.

the action on my telecaster at the 12th fret is a little over 2mm... that's pretty low in my opinion!
