My good friend has 2 of them and they are for sale also. He has RR0280 Custom String Thru and RR0511 Custom String Thru. They are both in bad shape, but if you wanna look at them here is a gallery...

I have RR0529, and have owned it since it was new. I had it refinished at the custom shop in the late 1990's. I think 1996 or 1997. It is candy purple with brass hardware.

AAhhhhhh!!!! Don't refinish it! yes, it has character, pls leave it like that. change over the hardware if you must but keep the original stuff safe. As time goes by it will be much more wanted in it's original state than with a new paintjob and hardware. Let's not lose another one to the refin.....

My first Jackson was RR0774...black & brass custom

Bought brand new in 1984 from Sherman Oaks California GC. Paid $1200 cash.

I had been eyeing it for a few weeks while I raised the $. They had it hanging way high next to the ceiling so that no one could get at it.

When I went in there to buy it, I asked one of the usual idiots (you know the type, very similar to Ron )if I could play it and the guy says '....uhh sorry kid...that's an expensive guitar, we can only let SERIOUS buyers play it.'

I whipped out the cash and laid it on the counter. 'Here asshole...I own it...can I play it NOW??' Dickhead...

I played that thing live in numerous bands throughout the '80's. Wish I still had it. I often wonder where it ended up.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I know. It took me a while to decide to have it done. The only reason I finally did was because the custom shop was doing it and my friend was looking after it for me. I kick myself knowing what I did to that poor guitar. It should be a case full of splinters. Young and dumb I guess. But it survived, and looking at some of the other specimen’s I see mine really was not that bad.

Re: Rhoads customs(1983-1984)

Back in the day I put in an EMG 81 and 58 but I saved my original PU's. I believe they are, a Duncan jazz in the neck and Duncan distortion in the bridge. It has been a while. I had the custom shop put them back in when I had the refin done. The only reason I opted for the refin was because I had someone set the guitar up and it came back with a chip at the tip of the neck point down to the wood so. Needless to say being pissed I took a crash course in set ups and do all my own setups now.

I have RR0370. Its a Red string thru with sharkies, has black and brass hardware. It has its share of "paint wounds" but no wood chunks or anything like that missing. I decided not to refinish it and leave it as is. I guess its a real relic

Dear kickaxeguitars,
Are you sure that it's RR0801 that you own/owned? If so, I've been looking for you for almost 20 years!
I left home for college in '96 and when I came home the summer of '99 my Black w/"gold" trim RR0801 Rhoads was missing! At the time my mother was going through substance abuse problems so I'm sure she stole it and sold it to feed her habit. She wouldn't admit to it, and I was in any case devastated.
Whatever photo you may have posted on this forum of RR0801 is no longer available. Are you still in possession of it? Are you willing to part with it ? You may think this is some scam but I can prove that this guitar was taken from me.

I found the guitar in a record store on Melrose ave. in the summer of 1993 in derelict condition. They wanted a $100 for the guitar so I bought it as a project. After taking possession of it I discovered it had:
A crack in the neck opposite of the locking nut
An incorrect Kahler Bridge
A chip/crack in the long V fin
Miss-matching Humbucker pick-ups (DiMarzio & Seymor Duncan)
And black spray paint from the head stock to the fins

After removing paint from the head stock, ivory trim, truss rod cover, & nut, I then gave the guitar to the ESP custom shop on Sunset blvd. for further repairs and parts needed. They glued the cracked nut/head stock/neck joint, replaced the knobs with proper black ones, and installed a proper Schaller temolo bridge licensed by Floyd Rose. I put so much into this guitar to resuscitate it from near scrap and as a result RR0801 was very dear to me. I'm sure you can understand. Do you mind posting photos of it? I'd love to see what it looks like today!

Best,
-H
