• Charvel/Jackson Quilt Mutt Big pic warning

A working mockup to check intonation.

Sorry for the big pics, but small just doesn't do it justice.

First time I drilled for a Floyd.. I musta sweat a gallon before I got brave enough to drill.

Model 2 neck + plate, Model 6 electronics and Hardware, DK-2 switch and an old Floyd from a Kramer lying around. Body by Ebay.

I think I'll go with Gold Hardware as the Black is getting lost.

Probably also use a DK-1 neck as well, but it plays great right now.

Gotta love the quilt.

Very cool. Is that pickup not F-spaced or is the Floyd just a little too far towards the lower strings?

where did you get the body from?
my dream guitar would be a body like that with hxh with a t-o-m or fixed bridge with a charvel model 1 neck.
i tried to put a model neck on a warmoth body, but the neck was too big for the neck pocket.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Heh. I was a little freaked myself. I thought I had screwed something up at first.

It's an old standard spaced Distortion. Plus in the pic, I've only got one screw in the mounting ring making it looked skewed.

I've since put in a J90C to test
Everything lines up fine, I measured 3 times. <phew>

I've been looking at some of those bodies, particularly one of the blue flame ones. They sure are nice bodies, but I cant make up my damn mind.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, I give it a cautionary recomendation.

1: Trem route is not quite right for a Floyd.
Due to the routing the bridge ends up a little too far back for comfortable intonation adjustment. It IS intonated, but I actually had to rout the neck pocket 1/4 inch into the body to give me comfortable adjustment room.

2: Neck pocket is not very deep, leaving the Bridge/Neck rather high off the body and a recess trem route impossible. I solved this by routing the neck pocket deeper about 5/8ths. Trem is almost flush now.

I would have complained bitterly if not for the fact I had the tools to fix the problems.

Like I said, I had to do major mods to the neck pocket to work with a Jackson/Charvel neck.

That said, it works perfectly now, no evidence of my corrections can be seen.

This body cost me half of what a Warmoth would, and the figure/wood/paint is top notch.

It worked out in the end for me, but others... buyer beware, not a "bolt-together" solution
