• !!! Mustaine wanted to buy Jackson co.?!!!

From http://megadeth.rockmetal.art.pl/int...world2003.html :

Dan Epstein : After all those years playing Jackson Flying V's, why have you now switched to ESP?

Dave Mustaine : Well, Jackson came up for sale a couple of times and I wanted to buy it, and then each time the sale was pulled. And then they tried to sell it a third time - I was contacted again by somebody within the company who said they wanted me to buy it, because we'd been friends for such a long time. And while we were positioning ourselves to buy the company they sold it to Fender, which I thought was a bit disrespectful knowing that I'm the number one endorser they had. But I let go.

Did you know all this shit?!Did I miss something behind all this story!?

Re: !!! Mustaine wanted to buy Jackson co.?!!!

From what I understand, he wanted to gather investors and then pay for the company in installments, but the sellers just wanted one lump sum for the company, so they sold to Fender.

That made him mad, so he ran off to ESP, who produced a cross-clone of a Gibson V and a Jackson King V in the grand UN-original tradition that is ESP.

He let it go? Bullshit! He pouted and holds a grudge! That's why he ran off to ESP, the company that's hell-bent on pretending it is Jackson by stealing all of their artists and signing them on to play Jackson bootlegs, instead of continuing to play Jacksons. He even sold off his Jacksons and ordered an immediate stop to the Y2KV, including ones already on order by customers.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I like his playing, but man he's such a spoiled child when it comes to his personality. You're right that his whole career revolves around his grudge against Metallica.

And on that note... what's really funny is that when you go to the signature series page on the ESP site, Mustaine's mug shot is right there alongside Hetfield's and Hammet's.

Because he's still chasing Metallica.

Mustaine even said himself he won't be touring - just doing some studio crap. Now, why invest money in an endorsee who isn't going to publicly advertise your product?

No Touring eh. Looks like ESP might have jumped the gun as they say, they deserve that dude Jack.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It's ESP. They probably just wanted the thrill of scoring another former-Jackson artist.

I agree, they want all of the Metal dudes and Shredders, don`t worry Jackson I don`t nead to see rock guys playing Jacksons to buy them, I always will as long as they stay high quality form the price Jack.

ESP does engage in a bit of false advertising and credit stealing IMO. AFTER musicians record their stuff with Jacksons, Gibsons, and whatever else, ESP comes along and pays them to play ESP's to look like their guitars are what they used as their tools of the trade.

It'll be interesting to see how many buy Mustaine's sig model based on his old work with Jacksons (since he has yet to release any new work with the ESP).

Oh jeez, not this crap again. This info was known quite awhile ago, and there's plenty of it on this board. Something wrong with the search feature?

I think it would have been great if they had let Mustaine buy Jackson!
I think that would have let it stay more free and "rad" than Fender will, in regard to JCF models, the custom shop and so forth.

That's my gut feeling anyway.

The problem with BIG corporation is that the people who make decisions are no longer guitar enthusiasts, but businessmen who measure everything in dollars. And so the art is lost...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Similar to how Mustaine usually recorded with Les Pauls in the stupid and played Jacksons in concert? Or how EVERY artists uses whatever guitar sounds best in the stupid? This isn't something specific to ESP, dude.
