• Why Jackson/Charvel anyway???

OK guys (and Gals if you're out there) What was it that made you want to play Jackson or Charvel guitars?
There has to be a reason......For me, it's because I just got sick of playing no tone Basswood (Ibanez) guitars. I had a few J/C's back in the 80's, and while they were pretty cool, I never hung on to them very long (no real reason I can remember offhand) Anyway, I recently picked up some strathead parts & put myself togheter a couple of parts guitars for fun and no matter what tried with the IBEEBHADS, they didn't sound anywhere ad good as the parts guitars I put togheter. So I sold off my Ibanez guitars thinking that I could pick up a few more strat heads pretty easily (WRONG)
So now I'm suffering from "GAS" (gear aquisition syndrome) and not having alot of luck, but hey....The hunt is half the fun .....RIGHT?????

Re: Why Jackson/Charvel anyway???

When I was younger, all of my favorite players were playing them. I loved the Jackson logo and the whole look of a Soloist. I bought one when the market for that stuff was dying out and loved that guitar. It was so versatile and played like it was made for me personally. Now that I am older and have disposable income, I have decided to buy some. So far only one of my Soloists isn't 100% awesome, but it sure isn't a dud either. That is pretty good odds considering I have bought most of them without ever trying them. I think overall you are more likely to get a killer than a dud.

I always liked the cool looks of Jacksons, with the sharkfins and whatnot so when I saw a 750XL with it's sharkfins and 24 fret goodness I just had to have it as my third guitar. About 7 years later I got a PCS Rhoads and GAS kicked in big time and I have heaps more.

Only in the last few years have I been able to appreciate a good bolt-on strat, having had bad experiences with cheap ones friends had in the 80's, before I was a player. Now my main players are bolt on Charvel/Jackson strats.

Well, as Jim stated, it started because the guitar heroes of my youth used them. But it continues because THEY'RE THE BEST DAMN GUITARS ON THE PLANET! Looks, playability, sound, tone, versatility, quality, you name it. And the custom shop will do it all. They give me everything I prefer in a guitar. Period.

Killer looks and killer prices enticed me in the first place. Now, I'm being ever more seduced by consistent quality control, awesome and comfortable playability, and wicked tone in the Jacksons I have played so far.

Krash, is that an ESP Lynch body with a Charvel neck?

Looks just like my Pre Prod lynch....

Vwall, it's a model 2 body with a custom paint job and a jackson strathead replacement neck.
It's a great player, but I prefer guitars with a neck pick up, so this sucker may be looking for a new home soon. I like everything about it except the 1 hum configuration. I have a spare 1 5/8 nut maple neck that I might put on it before I let it go. The one pictured is 1 11/16 and the others have 1 3/4..... I like wide thin necks!
(Also as a side note... I never liked Hockey stick neck (pointy) guitars, that was one of the reasons I went with Ibanez. I like the strings to pull straight across the nut.)

I started playing Jacksons cuz all my Buds played gibsons or fenders. I LOVE the look of the pointy headstock and goddamn they (my japanese ones) play better than every other guitar ive tried (except one prs). And of course Marty Friedman played them.

I cant wait for my First USA Jackson. Its Gonna Kill that PRS

Re: Why Jackson/Charvel anyway???

My parents bought me my first guitar in 1987 - a Squier Strat. I had it for less than a month before I decided I didn't like it, so I took it to the guys at the local Mom'n'Pop music store to trade it in. They said "hey, we just got these really nice Charvels in, and they aren't much more expensive than what you've got".

So that's how I got my Model 1C. I didn't know much about the different brands of guitars, I was young...but I do remember being impressed by the cool looking headstock, maple fretboard and, above all, the black hardware. That Charvel was the first guitar I ever *really* fell in love with. I KEEP playing them now because the Jackson/Charvel necks just feel better to me than practically anything else out there. Maybe it's because I grew up with them.

The neck fits my hand, the Floyd stays in tune, my soloist has an amazing number of tones, the guitars are still a bargain (even at new prices), and amazing looking women often offer to sleep with me just because I play a Jackson guitar.
