I´ve had exactly 20 guitars of various brands, and have returned once again to Charvel/Jacksons.
My latest purchase was a white Model 6, and that is without any doubt one of the best guitars i´ve ever had.
Only matched by a USA Soloist i once owned...
I also agree on the Charvel logo issue.
I don´t hate the toothpaste logo, but it doesn´t feel right... Might pick one up one day though.

I first noticed J/C thru Phil Collen, who was (and still is) my biggest influence as a kid. So a high-profile endorsee brought me in, but I keep on playing J/C because they simply are great guitars. And they look so cool, too [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Frequently asked, simply to answer: Best playability, best feeling and best playing necks, best craftmanship, best sound, best designs, best conceptions, best philosophy!

When I started to play guitar, I was in Stratocasters. The Strat is still my favourite body style, but I didn't like the playablity of the Fender style necks and the cheaply conception of pickups and electronics installed on a cheaply plastic pick guard mounted over a front route, and I wanted a humbucker in bridge position.
Somewhere in the early 80s, I saw a white San Dimas Charvel Strat with magenta flame graphic, an oil finished maple neck with black pointy headstock and gold logo, single hum and a brass vintage tremolo in the local store. I never heared of Charvel/Jackson before. I tried the guitar out. The playability of the fast, wide and thin neck was sensational, and the feeling of the oiled neck finish was dreamlike. These are exactle the right necks for me. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the sound was great. I liked the custom graphic. I was "fire and flame" (a German idiom for beeing hooked) for that guitar. Since then Charvels and Jackson are my on and only love in guitars.

Most of my favourite guitarists never played Charvel/Jackson (Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie, Tony Iommi), but some did or do (Jake E. Lee, Vivian Campbell, Gary Moore, Dave Murray/Adrian Smith). Nevertheless, I play Charvel/Jackson because of I like them the best, and not because of other guitarists playing them.

My favorite guitar players don't play Charvel/Jacckson either.
AND just for the record...one of the COOLEST Charvel's (In my oponion) turns out NOT to be a Charvel at all, but a 70's 3 bolt FENDER STRAT. (The White Jake E.Lee that is his #1)
I couldn't believe it when I found that out!!!

I'm with you on that, Toby...almost NONE of my favorite players use C/Js, although the late great Shawn Lane did play a 750xl for awhile. But now that I'm hooked on Jackson, nothing else feels quite right when I play it. I used to be a Gibson player, but they all feel like big club-like pieces of wood to me now. And Fender strats feel clunky and "unfinished" in comparison.

For me, it's mostly the shape of the neck and the quality of the fretwork that makes Jacksons special. And that's true of the cheaper Japanese guitars, as well. Although I do favor the USA Jacksons, I dare anyone to go to Guitar Center and find another guitar in the store that plays better than a DK-2. Anything that does will likely carry a serious four-figure price tag (like a USA Jackson...).
