Just a thought..What if every member sent in 1 dollar..Thats easy on anyone and it would sure make a nice guitar at $2,500 something? At any rate $20 from me.
But some of the members of this community are not from the United States and would not necessarily be apt to support the cause due to their position on the conflict. Despite our generosity, it would be callus and disrespectful of their views to ask them to pitch in. It's best that this is on a volunteer basis.
Besides, a large portion of the 2500+ members do not visit the board on a daily, or even weekly basis.
I agree with Chuck. What do we know about this guy? Instead of sending this guy a guitar, what about sending a care package to be shared with his entire unit or platoon or whatever the hell you call it. Yeah, it's cool that he plays a Jackson, but it doesn't make him any more special than any of the other guys out there who are away from their homes and families. Besides, what are his buddies going to think if he gets a bunch of stuff. He will be resented at the very least.
yes, we'll do something, care package or whatever. that said, this isn't gonna turn into a pissing match.
what we know about this guy is that he's serving his country. good enough for me. i doubt that he's got a stable of custom shop pieces at home, as he looks pretty young, and i doubt that he's got the bread. i look at this for what it is, a nice gesture. those that want to contribute, please do. if not, that's totally cool too.
let's not worry about this any further until we get his contact info, mmmkay?

A lot of good ponts have been made on how to go about this. Contacting him will have to be the first step for sure. My nephew is being deployed to Iraq on 1-5-04. He has been told that email will be made available to everyone in his group. So we may be able to contact this guy by email. Also, we need to find out if he can even get guitar sized packages where he is.
For what it's worth, here is my 2 cents on what to do:
CARE PACKAGE: I am all for sending him a care package of some kind. I have to wonder, if we send him shirts & hats for him and his buddies, will he be able to wear them. I'm sure there has to be some sort of regulation against non-military attire. Maybe a "guitar players" care package for starters. A few sets of strings (which I'm sure are not easy to get over there), picks, strap, maybe some Jackson posters, a 2003 Jackson catalog, stuff like that.
GUITAR: I think sending him a Jackson is a great idea. I say lets get a Warrior for him. The style would be a little different than what he has, and in a sense, that's where he is...at war. I think it's irrelavent if he has several guitars at home. The relevent part is where he is, and what he's doing for his country. I would rather send him the guitar in the field, than send it to his family. Getting a gift like that when you are living in a hole in the sand, risking your life on a daily basis, a few thousand miles from home would be way better than waiting til you get home to enjoy it.
