• Fixed bridge question.....

Hi guys, been a while since ive posted but been busy training for my new job and getting stuff done.

Anyhow, I've been enjoying my Wolfgang, but I would like to add a new soloist to my colleciton in the future, but I have a quick question.

I really like the USA Sl1/SL2H jackson neck profiles. I know they all vary (hand made) but I find the width, fret size, profile/everything to do with the neck very nice and comfortable.

I want to pick up a Fixed bridge soloist, but Im not sure if the Sl2GX is what I am looking for. I dont want a "speed neck" or a "slsmg" thin neck type deal, I want the same neck like on the USA solists.

Do those older japanese made guitars feature the same neck profile? I believe they were archtop students or something?

Bascially, I want all the specs of a USA Soloist with a fixed bridge, but if I can pick up a used gal off here or Ebay, then I would be just as happy instead of ordering a custom shop one day for a LOT more.

Let me know if you can give me any ideas what to look for. Must be 24 fret, 25.5 inch scale

Somewhere along the line on this board the name "Speed Neck" came to mean a very thin neck. It ain't so.
The SL2GX has the best neck profile of any Jackson I've ever owned or touched. It's just a hair beefier down by the nut than a soloist, and feels like a newer soloist by mid neck or so.
If you like the Wolf, you'll dig it.

That`s cool to know for myself, because that is what has kept from a Warrior, but hey, I am going to have to try one out, but can`t find one locally to try first One of these days Jack.

Thanks for the bump jack , and the answer Chuck.

It's a case of "where the heck would i be able to demo that guitar"

But your answer is interesting. I was lead to believe the speed neck had smaller frets and a "ibanez" type feel.

I dont want to sacrifice that awesome neck profile of the soloist just to own a USA jackson.

Chuck, would u say the width and nut are the same, as well as the radius? Im guessing the TOM may have a different feel then an OFR?

Thanks for any help!

Yes, I would say the width at the nut and up the neck as well as the raduis and frets are the same.
The neck is just a little meatier at the nut up to about the fifth fret or so. Its a small diference, but you can feel it. It's a great neck.

If you've never played a tune-o-matic, there is a learning curve involved but once you've got it you can switch back and forth with no problems.

I've had one hell of a lot of Jacksons including several very cool custom shop guitars and the SL2GX was the brightest spark of the bunch, hands down.

Cool , care to post any pictures of it Chuck. Someone offered a Green Sl2GX to me a while back for a decent price.

If that someone reads this, could you please get back to me. Im starting to get some income, so I'd like to look fairly serious at one. Preferably Trans-Green

My favorite Jackson was also the sl2gx and I had 2 of them but after playing the DK1 I sold both cause that neck(DK1) is the sweetest by far. Thinner smaller and unpainted.

Re: Fixed bridge question.....

Wow, I thought the same thing about the Speed Neck, very thin, even thinner than the Dinky neck. I have a 1990 USA Fusion that is about as thin as I can play, it is very good news and somewhat suprising to hear the SN is like the Solist, but even a little thicker at the nut. I think Jackson may have put the wrong name to that neck profile I love the Soloist neck and the Fusion neck, it only takes a few licks to adjust on them, and they both have Floyds so that is cool there. I do have a 1995 Hamer Special FM and that is chunkier than all of them, I love it, kinda like the LP Standard profile and has a tunamatic stopbar bridge, great guitar and the Rio BBQ Bucker is awsome in it Jack. Thanks-Jack.

Re: Fixed bridge question.....

If you can live without those last 2 frets, go with a SLATQH! Fixed bridge, Mah neck-thru, Mah body & a sweet quilted arch top. The neck feels like a standard soloist profile. You can get one with, or without a finished neck. IMHO it is the best "production model" Jackson makes. I looked at an SL2GX-RB a few months back. Very nice guitar, but a new one was almost $200 more than the SLATQH.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nah. Check the neck specs in the catalog. The DK1 neck has the thinnest, fastest profile, and is oiled. Quite SD Charvel-ish, IMHO. I love it, too!
