LOU REED !!!???!!! Are you serious ?!? That guy can't even hold a tune while attempting to sing, let alone even get his name on a guitarist's list ! That guy's painful, but apparently one of history's best guitarist's !

Newc said it. RS is all about fashion. If you are a musician you don't read that shit anyway.

Come to think of it I don't know anybody that reads rolling stone.I never see it at guitar shows.Never at a concert the only place I see it at the rack at the grocery store.

Kurt Cobain was too stoned to play and couldn't even tune a guitar so WTF is he doing on the list anyway?

Re: No Steve Vai,Joe Satriani, EVH 70th

Cobain a fad that will die out? Nearly thirteen years on, Nevermind is still a STAPLE of rock radio. Give it the fuck up, people. I don't know of many fads that last 13 fucking years.

Jimmy Page was also too fucking stoned to play in tune. His tone is shitty and his bends are ALWAYS way the fuck out of tune. What was your point again?

The order is wrong, but I have to agree with most of the people on the list. Everyone on that list did something that was completely different from everyone else on the list, even players from the same genre.

Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo took Glenn Branca's idea of completely fucking with the guitar and ran with it. I wonder how many people that complain about Sonic Youth have ever even listened to them. They're fucking great songwriters, and more technically competent than anyone gives them credit for. I'd like to see some of you guys try to make anything worthwhile out of some of the tunings they use.

Yeah Kurt Nobrain still has fans out there but give me a break. The guy couldn't play guitar all that well. If he could he didn't really make it known on his albums. There is one song that its intro is somewhat SRVish but thats about it.
Hell Elvis still has fans too. Does that make his one of the greatest guitarist in history?
Did he even know more three chords? He was to busy gyrating his hips to even play. Yean RS is a political rag for fasion of who's in who's out kind of thing but at last they should try to apeal to musicians and make some sense of thier poles er I mean servays.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">True, it's not a fad. However, a lot of absolute garbage has sustained more than 13 years of airplay. Nirvana is just one of those lame pieces of garbage.

no no, BM is correct. The Bay City Rollers still get (occasional) radio airplay 30 years after they broke big out of Scotland, with their matching tartan outfits, so who am I to say their music is shit that only sold big to teenage girls more concerned with how cute the bass player was than with the quality of the songs they were producing? If it's getting played on the radio, it must be good, right?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ummm, no, they shouldn't change their format. They should stay exactly like they are. It's better if skunks look like skunks and not cats or opossums or racoons or cows, right?
I mean, think about it - you go to milk a cow and it sprays you with an udder full of skunk oil - P.U.

Rolling Stone always was a political rag. It started as a fanzine for people who listened to Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and those other politically-concious songwriters. It also gave a rough overview of the current political scene so the people who listened to the songs could also keep up with who they should vote for, what issues they should be concerned about, and what they could do to push certain issues.

If RS was bought out and turned overnight into the greatest Metal mag ever, it'd be out of print in a week, because, frankly, the Metalheads wouldn't buy it enough to support it, and the currently-installed buyer-base of aging hippies and baby boomers would drop it like a greased baby.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Maybe, but not like they do. How about YOU play a solo with a drumstick, and STAY IN KEY, while your guitar is strung upside down and tuned in thirds. It's hard as shit, and not everyone can do it. More important than any of that, they make some great fucking music.

no no, BM is correct. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">So do Pretty Boy Floyd and Dangerous Toys. Who gives a fuck who listened to them? You either like them or don't. I don't care if a band is shitty or not, only if they make something that doesn't suck, for a given value of 'doesn't suck'. My definition of 'doesn't suck' and someone else's will be different.

Hell Elvis still has fans too. Does that make his one of the greatest guitarist in history?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, because he wasn't known as a guitarist. That's like asking if Steve Vai is worth a shit as a vocalist. OF COURSE NOT! It doesn't make Presley less of a singer, or Vai less of a guitarist. You want to bring Elvis into this, let's talk Scotty Moore.

The guy couldn't play guitar all that well. If he could he didn't really make it known on his albums.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, he couldn't play for shit by anyone's standards. I never said he could, and I'll be the first to say he was a shitty guitarist. I also said I didn't agree with the ordering of the list. However, there is NO FUCKING QUESTION in my mind that Cobain should be on the list, but he should be lower. Not much though. If you're ranking them by influence on other people's guitar playing, he belongs up around 25 or so, behind EVH and Rhoads and Scotty Moore and Les Paul and so on. The amount of influence he had on modern music in general was IN-FUCKING-CREDIBLE. To ignore that FACT is, in my nowhere-near-humble opinion, really fucking stupid.

If you don't like him, fine. But don't even attempt to cast aside his contributions. I fucking hate Jimmy Page and could outplay his lame ass any day of the fucking week, but I still give him the credit he is undoubtedly due.

I thought the list was Best Guitar Player. Not the most influentail one. Those are two differant things. Kurt was a more influentail player than he was more of a great guitar player. Unlike Eddie who is both hugely influential and has mastered the guitar besides.
