The girlfriend and I went to the casino tonight, Mohegan Sun in CT.They have a theater setup in the middle of the place and usually have a live band playing at night. We were playing the slot machines near the theater when the band started playing. They started off with a Springsteen song and moved on to R&B , motown and 50 an 60's rock.We were moving around to find a machine that might actually pay somthing and that is when I get a good look at the guitarist. I had to do a double take as that headstock looked awful fimilair.Sure enough as I got closer it was a Soloist , with a Gesisha girl graphic from what I could see.It was a older one to boot as it had three control knobs on it. What I thought was wierd was the fact that this was a R&B and oldies band. The guy playing was in his late forties early fiftes sounded really good.He also had what looked to be a PRS and Fender strat that he did not touch.

Re: Saw a Soloist in a odd setting tonight
I bought a SLH-2 for the double Duncan hums,(and the neck and the body etc. etc.).I found that it's great for many styles of music. It's not just for metal they just work great for that.
By using the volume and tone control one can get a great variety of sounds out of different pickup selections.
It seems to me the only limitations to these instruments are only in the hands of the user

Re: Saw a Soloist in a odd setting tonight
The myth needs to be shattered right here right now about Jacksons belonging to the young and loud. They are not exclusively metal guitars, nor have they always been. Jeff Beck and Allan Holdsworth are but a few celebs who've used them. Not to mention the countless other "working man" musicians who bring them out night after night around the world. I play in a variety band and find the Jackson guitar well suited to all forms of modern music. But any serious musician can recognize a great guitar, and many genres of music have Jacksons or Charvels as their guitars of choice. When you think about it, some of the specs on our beloved Jacksons aren't even designed for metal: the JB pickups that are standard on almost all the USA's are a prime example."Got a crazy feeling I don't understand,
Gotta get away from here.
Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."

Re: Saw a Soloist in a odd setting tonight
In my neck of the woods there are alot of country and classic rock bands and I see many guys playing Jacksons in those bands these days. One country band I saw the guitar player had three Jacksons, one main and two backups. They were all newer, so i didn't really examine them, but thought it was kind of weird to see a country boy so into them as it was obviously not something he just bought because they were all he could afford, he must really like them.
I also noticed that many bar bands tend to have a bass player playing 80's Charvel model series basses.

charvel750 I agree with you on the fact they are not just a "Metal" guitar. But unfortunately that is what they are asscoiated with the most.It is shame that is what peoples perception is of Jackson guitars. They are a very versatile guitar that plays great. To me it sounds good playing any thing from SRV to Megadeth. It just caught me off guard is all as I did not except to see it.I do think it was cool especially with a graphic on it.My girlfriend thinks I am nuts as I almost went running when I recognized the headstock.I had to go check it out.Mike

Re: Saw a Soloist in a odd setting tonight
The guy probably bought it new in his 20's when he played rock. At least he didn't refinish it black or something. They can be super versatile especially if you use a lower output pickup along the lines of a PAF.
