Re: It seems not everyone is happy with Jenna Jameson in the Jackson ads...

Basically we're all expressing our opinions on how we'd like to see Jackson/Charvel marketed. There's no right or wrong here. No big deals, just opinions.

I personally am not angry that Jackson employed a porn star to take a few pics (Morgan, where's the other pictures man??? ) or that almost all of their new swag leans towards an 'evil' persona. But I would like to see a couple items made available for those of us who don't wear skulls out in public.

They still make regular Jackson-logoed gear, AFAIK. I doubt they'd stop.

But really... it's just a fuckin' skull. If it was a gaping anus (http://goatse.cx) I could understand not wearing it in public, but a friggin' cartoon skull? Or the cartoon devil chick? This is all shit that's been on hot rods since the 50's, and I can't see anyone looking at you weird for it.

Sorry, wasn't aware that I couldn't voice my choice of what I like to and don't like to wear.

Re: It seems not everyone is happy with Jenna Jameson in the Jackson ads...

I apologize for that outburst. It seems that what I'm trying to say isn't being heard. (I should be used to that by now) I'm just a little short-tempered because I'm working on my website and there are some things that aren't going according to plan.

With that said, I know that they won't stop with the general logoed swag, and as a matter of fact, I've got most of it. (next purchase the hockey jersey) And I am not worried about looks from people. Especially since I live in Chicago, about 6 blocks away from Belmont and Clark. This is where about 75% of the people who cross this particular intersection look like they're from Mars. But wearing "cartoon skulls" or "cartoon devil chicks" is not what I wear out.

I have the Skully-t. I wear it around the apartment. I don't wear it out, not because of emberassment, but again, it's just not my public style... Of all my Jackson or Charvel shirts that get worn the most, my Custom Shop t-shirt and bowling shirt are probably tops along with my two Charvel t-shirts...

What I would like to see is more variety in the logoed swag. Something that the conservatively-dressed can wear. (and please make a Charvel baseball cap)

It's cool. I have a website too. I know what it's like. "FUCKING TABLES! LINE UP, DAMN YOU!"

My point was just that the newer Jackson stuff is still not all that weird. I don't see the regular logoed gear going anywhere, luckily, but I would agree they need some different stuff. Bring back the button-up shirts, for starters. I don't know if those ever actually made it into production, now that I think about it...

For me, no ad ever sold a guitar. Researching it, playing it, talking to others, etc., that is what sells me a guitar. My wife could promise me a blow job if I bought a (insert shitty guitar here) and it wouldn't get me to buy it. I look for quality and playability and J/C offers that.
Now I'm just not making sense anymore. Fuck it. I'm out.
I don't think it's about being politically correct, but about presenting the wrong image. The other guitar makers are successful because they more effectively present themselves as something anyone can play, while Jackson is appealing to specific types of people with it's marketing, which I think is a bad idea. Jackson produces some very classy quality guitars very much worthy of being in even a nit-picker's collection, but they're not showing that as they emphasize skanks and skulls.

Are they though? You don't think ESP aren't playing the same game, with their own "bad ass" image & their current line-up of metal endorsees? I haven't been to ESP's site in a while, but I can't recall seeing any jazzers over there.

Ibanez try to cater for a wider range of musicians with metal and jazz sig models. But they still provide genre-specific instruments. Of course, nothing's stopping someone playing bluegrass on a "metal" axe, or from banging heads with a Pat Metheny sig jazzbox if that's what they want. But they still market certain models to particular markets.

re: the bikini chick on the Mothership's website. As some have already mentioned here, most people have no idea WHO the model posing with the Rhoads on Jackson's site is, anymore than they can tell you who the bikini models in the Dean ads are, or all of the models on the couple of "chicks with guitars" websites folks here were sharing a couple of weeks ago. Jenna may be the biggest pornstar on the planet, but to most of the general public, in her capacity as "bikini model with Jackson Rhoads", that's all she is. A model.

Damn! Just missed out on this one

How long until GLAD gets involved and wants the gay Boy George or even Rob Halford biker-type guys featured in such ads? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but we'll see who's complaining about porn stars then.

That's what I get for typing and eating at the same time.

As someone who is considering opening a sex related business, I do find this discussion interesting.

Indeed, Alembic, BC Rich and een Ibanez were making neck-through guitars in the
70s. Great idea to adopt, but they didn't invent it, just as the superStrat was their modification of Fender's basic
ideas. No Strat trem, no Hendrix divebombs, no Blackmore and Uli and EVH
using a trem, no Floyd Rose inventing a
trem that would stay in tune for EVH.

Of course, Fender and Jackson are two very different animals, but though Jacksons are a lot nicer, Fenders are still good guitars. Those who disagree are spoiled by the quality of Jacksons,
which is understandable. I like Strats once in awhile BECAUSE they put up a little more fight when you play 'em. For
blues and classic rock they keep you from overplaying in the genre.

So yes, calling Fender firewood is like saying it's OK to toss Grampa into the fire. Respect your elders, even if you don't go to Bingo with 'em!

Oh I'm cheap, but definately not free.

I'm currently researching local zoning ordinances in an effort to open an gentleman's club. Unfortunately, I don't like what I have found so far, so I am also going to investigate the zoning laws in Athens and Columbia as well. I would prefer to do something here in my hometown, but I would have to act as a silent partner to open anything here.

With the crowd that is in town every year for the Master's Golf Tournament, I could very easily end up doing business with some featured entertainers of Jenna's status.

I've done pretty thorough research on the earning potential of such a business in this area, and the income possibilities are unreal. I also believe that the majority of people working the adult/sex industry fail to apply basic business practices and thus lose a considerable portion of their profits to poor management of expenses and resources.

Twelve years ago I graduated from college at the age of twenty-one and began a teaching career. Now, I'm planning to open a strip club. It is truly amazing how much your direction in life can change.
